Jehovah Witness Coming Back in 2 Weeks to Answers My Questions

There's nothing wrong if a person drinks wine or any other alcoholic beverages. It is only wrong when it's too much ;) Doctors even recommend drinking wine atleast once or twice a week because it is good for the heart.

Heard 'blueberry' wine good for BP ?_____

Also, 1st Timothy 5:23 gives an RX for stomach's sake: use a little wine.

It is what it is
We just moved to a new town, and it seems the active door-knockers around here are the Mormons. Suppose I better polish off some dusty books and get myself ready for some new "friends".

Just the facts Ma'am
When I see the JW's or Mormons at my front door I usually answer the door with my 9mm and a cleaning rag in one hand and a beer in the other with a smoke hanging out of my mouth. They don't have much to say to me!!! LOL works every time.

Cute. One of my best friends is a man I used to work with. He grew up in San Francisco and was recently divorced when the LDS missionaries stopped by his apartment one day in the late 1960. He had long, probably not too clean hair, and was dressed in typical (for that time and place) fringed leather and love beads. He opened the door to see the missionaries standing there. He'd been drinking, and offered them each a beer. They declined, but asked if they could share a message with him, preferably on a day when he was sober. He agreed to let them come back. Now, fifty years later, he is a practicing Mormon whose religious beliefs mean everything to him. Evidently your tactics don't always work, but to each his own.

I can understand your success at your door step with your ^above^ actions.

But since you are here, w/o gun and cleaning rag or beer, this forum is serving as an approach or access to you as a passage doorway or as an open door would.

Among other things Jesus likened himself to a door. -John 10 vs 7,9
So, perhaps this forum is kind of like going in through the back door to reach some.

Just wondering why you don't try to show them the 'error' of their ways?
Wouldn't that be the loving thing to do to point out why you think they are wrong?

Think I will just print up this sign for the front door.

Exactly!! If I want to hear their views I'll go visit their church. You won't see me going door to door where they live and sharing my views with them. Some people have no boundres and expect me to allow them into mine. NO THANK YOU!

Agreed.....

I've actually been looking for a sign like that. I will certainly be putting this on my door.

I'd make it a lot simpler, T. After I put up such a sign, I STILL had JW's ring the bell who claimed not to know what proselytizing meant.

The next sign said:

NO SOLICITING
We do not do business,
talk politics or religion, especially religion,
at our front door.
We had one guy trying to sell something after that who claimed he wasn't selling anything but only "offering me a cleaning product." I said, "Sure, I'll take it. It must be free since you said you're not going to sell me anything." For some peculiar reason, he didn't like that idea.

The only religion peddlers were two Mormon guys who woke both my husband and me one Saturday morning for the sole purpose of telling us they'd read our sign and would honor it. As my husband said, "And your idea of honoring it was ringing our bell repeatedly until you woke both me and my wife to tell us you'd not bother us? Get off my property NOW!"

That sign also helps in accomplishing the preaching/ teaching work of Matthew [24 v 14] because as focused in on Acts [20 v 20; 5 v 42] 'house to house' was how 1st-century people were approached with the kingdom message.
A posted sign helps those doing the door-to-door work by not wasting each other's time.

Jesus' 1st-century followers also preached and taught 'down by the riverside' [Acts 16 v 13] so don't be surprised if approached out in a public area.

Facts not Faith
I just spent about 30 minutes in a polite discussion with a Jehovahs Witness who knocked on my front door this morning.

He was unable to answer some of my questions on their creation beliefs and had to go (his 4 colleages were waiting for him in the car in front of my house) but promised to come back in 2 weeks with some clarifications.

He left me with a little book entitled "Life... how did it get here? By evolution or by creation?", and before he left, he acknowledge that it was a fact that dinosaurs existed millions of years ago. I will be expanding on this with him next time he visits, along with further questions based on his little book.

In addition, I was wondering if anyone could suggest some good questions to ask him regarding the Jehovah Witness faith in particular, especially around their creation beliefs.

I have no plans to be rude to him, he seemed like a nice enough guy, but if he's gonna knock on my door, he should at least be qualified to answer my questions. I don't feel bad asking for some help from RF members as I'm pretty sure he won't be alone next time either (I'm predicting a 2-on-1 or even 3-on-1).

Thank you in advance for your stumper questions... if I used them, I will post the answer I was given.

Ask him how he explains the fossil evidence for human evolution.

Take a look at homo afarensis:
lucy.jpg

This fossil is just like an ape except it is bipedal. To be bipedal you require a different him and a different lower body in general. Lucy's hip is a bipedal hip.

Homo africanus is like afarensis except it has a larger brainsize of 420 to 500 cc. The chimpanzee averages around 390 cc.

Homo Habilis. This is a species with an average of 650 cc brain size. Compare this to 1350 cc human cranial size.

We have found many homo habilis skulls and have been able to construct its skull below:

Compare this to a chimpanzee:

And a human skull:

Notice that scientists filled in a lot but that is from other homo habilis skulls we have found.

Homo erectus started with an average cranial size of 900 cc but went up to 1100 cc. They still have small brains, large eyebrow ridges, and projecting jaws:

From the neck down they are human:

Neanderthals:
Sapiens_neanderthal_comparison.jpg

These are probably the most like humans and are far more human-like than homo erectus. Some people argue that they are simply humans with expressed eye ridges. However take a look at an aboriginese.

Big eye ridge.
Take a look at their skulls:
aboriginal-vs-slav.jpg

Neanderthals have more radical eye ridges than even aborigines and just think how homo erectus would look. Neanderthals have 50% thinker bone than humans.

Neanderthals are also genertically different from us:

Fossil Hominids: mitochondrial DNA

Some may argue that we have not found a lot of fossils. We have found over 4,000 as of 1976 including 500 neanderthals, 150 homo erectus, and 150 homo afarensis.
CC030: Human fossils on a table

We see a general transition of brain sizes as we go back in time:
brainsize.gif

We even see a general increase in the humanness of the fossils over time:
human-evolution-chart-chimps.jpg

Why are there these primitive humans before we see modern ones? What is up with the smooth transition.

We also have genetic evidence for evolution. Endogenous retroviruses can insert their DNA into humans and we can then pass on their genes to our children. In fact these sequences can be identified. Humans and chimps actually share retrovirus sequences and the same places showing our ancestry.
