Who here...

godlikemadman

God Among Men
... is currently a "member" of a religion or way of life they are not sure of? In other words, who here only practices a religion because they were born and raised as a member of that particular faith?

Who here has doubts?

I have plenty of doubts.

But I wasn't raised in my religion; I became Hindu a few years ago. I grew up in an agnostic household.

Not everyone follows the religion they may have been raised in. Many people don't. Many people will find their own way down a different path.

Yes, like you and me. Well, you anyway I assume. I was raised in no religion but now have one. But no religion was a belief of some sort. Drastically altered now. What i meant was that any person saying "I know for a fact', or some such nonsense has recesses of the mind, even if temporal, where doubt lingers on.

I used to be a devout Catholic until I explored my doubts. Now I'm a happy atheist. No doubts because I don't claim any religious knowledge.

I only follow known facts, but I'm sure my science is misleading somewhere along the line.

I am not following the religion I was raised in, sort of. Of course I have doubts in my religion, just as I have doubts in myself (not that much difference between the two though).

To know(believe) there is no god is to have the knowledge of the inexistence of something.

If you truly didn´t claim anything religious that would be called agnosticism.

As an atheist, you claim that god doesn´t exist, and the inexistence of something is a knowledge. In other words you "know" God doesn´t exist.

Teorethically, any atheist could doubt the inexistence of god the same way a theist of any kind may doubt his existence at some point.

Did I go wrong somewhere around there?

weak (or negative) atheism = lack of belief in deities
strong (or positive) atheism = belief that deities don't exist
agnosticism = belief that whether gods exist is unknowable

An atheist is a person who doesn't believe in gods. It's that simple. I don't make any claims, so I'm a weak atheist. For the very same reason, I'm not an agnostic.

No. Agnostics claim that the existence of God is unknowable. I don't even make that claim.

You're talking as though my label dictates my beliefs rather than vice versa. You have no reason to believe I claim anything, so don't make stuff up.

Yes. You failed to distinguish between weak and strong atheism. You failed to understand the meaning of agnosticism. You failed to understand that even strong atheists have varying levels of certainty.
