The Bible does not say the "forbidden fruit" in the garden of Eden was an apple. It does not specify what kind of fruit it was.Apriori said:This is a poll of sorts not a debate. I would like to gather a list of things the Bible does not say but are attibuted to it.
In reality, it will be alist of things people think the Bible does not say, at lest until I research it. Please do not turn these into debates. If you wish, you may open a new thread for the debate.
An example is "God helps those who helps themselves." There are no Scripture references to link this often attributed quote to the Bible.
Any reference, logic or reasoning on your part to add to you entry is encouraged.
Thank you for your input.
BRAVO!!lilithu said:I've got a couple, but they're both controversial:
The bible does not say that God is a trinity.
The bible does not say that abortion is wrong.
Oh and the bible does not say that Jesus was born on December 25th.
And then I have a couple questions, which may or may not be further answers to your question depending on the answers:
Where in the bible does it say that God is omniscient?
Where in the bible does it say that God is omnipotent?
Psalms 33:13-15, 139:11-12, 147:5; Proverbs 15:3; Isaiah 40:14, 46:10; Acts 15:18; etclilithu said:Where in the bible does it say that God is omniscient?
2 Corinthians 6:18; Revelation 1:8; Revelation 4:8; Revelation 11:17; Revelation 15:3; Revelation 16:7, Revelation 16:14; Revelation 19:15; Revelation 21:22lilithu said:Where in the bible does it say that God is omnipotent?
All it says is that God sees everything we do; it doesn't say that God knows what we're thinking or what we will do.pandamonk said:Psalms 33:13-15 - "From heaven the LORD looks down
and sees all mankind;
from his dwelling place he watches
all who live on earth-
he who forms the hearts of all,
who considers everything they do."
Very poetic. Same response as above.pandamonk said:Psalms 139:11-12 - "If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,"
even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you. "
Understanding of what? Same response as above.pandamonk said:Psalms 147:5 - "Great is our Lord and mighty in power;
his understanding has no limit."
Same response as above.pandamonk said:Proverbs 15:3 - "The eyes of the LORD are everywhere,
keeping watch on the wicked and the good."
It just says the Lord has a lot of understanding that He didn't get from someone else. Again, no mention of omniscience.pandamonk said:Isaiah 40:14 - "Whom did the LORD consult to enlighten him,
and who taught him the right way?
Who was it that taught him knowledge
or showed him the path of understanding?"
It sounds to me more like God making His will known to us, not the other way around.pandamonk said:Isaiah 46:10 - "I make known the end from the beginning,
from ancient times, what is still to come.
I say: My purpose will stand,
and I will do all that I please."
Yes, it looks like all you did was search for the word "almighty." (Except for the first citation, Acts 15:18 - "that have been known for ages", and my guess is that there's a typo in the citation. ) So you're entire argument for God's omnipotence rests on the meaning of the word "almighty." Given what the verses actually say, I would argue that "almighty" simply means that God is very powerful. It does not mean that God can do anything and everything. It does not mean that God is omnipotent.pandamonk said:
Good point! Nor does it say that Jesus condemned homosexuality.Merlin said:I don't think the Bible says that Jesus wasn't married
Lilithu, Namaste.lilithu said:Good point! Nor does it say that Jesus condemned homosexuality.
(And no, I'm not suggesting that Jesus was gay, only that he did not have a problem with it.)
There are those, (and I am not one of them) who believe that the raising of Lazarus was the description of a homosexual episode.lilithu said:Good point! Nor does it say that Jesus condemned homosexuality.

That is interesting; would you explain how ? - I am not 'poking fun' I am genuinely interested.Merlin said:There are those, (and I am not one of them) who believe that the raising of Lazarus was the description of a homosexual episode.
Really? :areyoucra I have never heard of that before . . .Merlin said:There are those, (and I am not one of them) who believe that the raising of Lazarus was the description of a homosexual episode.
It doesn't -- at least not in those words. Nor, does it, to the best of my understanding, say He is omnipresent.lilithu said:Where in the bible does it say that God is omniscient?
