2010 California Marriage Protection Act

Smoke

Done here.
From here: California Man Looking to Outlaw Divorce | NBC Bay Area
The vows are clear. "For richer or for poorer. In sickness and in health. Till death do us part." Still, about half of all marriages nationwide end in divorce, according to some statistics.

But if Sacramento Web designer John Marcotte has his way, divorce will be against the law in California.

It started as a joke on voters who outlawed gay marriage but it's looking more and more like a serious law proposal that could find a spot on the 2010 ballot.

Marcotte, who runs badmouth.net, is proposing the 2010 California Marriage Protection Act because, as the Web says, "Prop 8 did not go far enough in protecting traditional marriage."

I'm sure the churches will want to spend millions promoting this one, too. This time, they can really protect marriage.

I've been hearing about this for a couple of months now. Should be interesting to see how it turns out.

Imagine all the millions saved on pre-nups if this thing passes. :p

Does anyone know whether the same organizations that fought against same-sex marriage are pusing for this? On account of, y'know, that's what their Bible says?

Willie Nelson and Chuck Norris balance that out.

Texas politics have always been nuts. I mean we're talking Dixie Chicks crazy.

Dixie Chicks aren't crazy...and Natalie is obviously a genius. Come on, you know I had to say it.

Towards the OP, I think this tongue-in-cheek proposition is great. This guy is taking the stupid argument of opponents of gay marriage and putting it right back out there. Only this just shows how stupid it was in the first place. I would love to see just how many of the prop 8 supporters will actually bring themselves to support this. And if they don't...why? I mean, it IS their whole argument..."protecting traditional marriage" and all.

Hello, Jesus prohibits divorce. C'mon, Christian same-sex marriage opponents, let's hear your support for this legislation.

This country shall not be restored to its former greatness so long as people are allowed to defile the sanctity of marriage by getting divorced.

It seems to me that the ability to divorce preserves the santity of marriage.

Otherwise, it's just the state forcing people to share property with someone who may or may not be abusive, insane, and otherwise seriously dysfunctional. A loveless marriage is the least of these worries...

I wonder what this nutcase will think about infidelity and all other forms of sexual contact between unmarried folks.
