    Human Imagination isn't Infinite

What about new ideas? Those don't come from empirical experiences.

    Neo-Platonism, Neo-Mysticism, and Buddhism

Has anyone here studied how neo-platonism influenced neo-mytism (and by that Buddhism) or vice versa? Thoughts? Places to point me to?

Aristotle's first cause argument and the existence of God

Tillich more or less believed that there is a self-existent God who may or may not be person. Of course, the interesting part there is he said that God is the ground of being, not being. Aristotle also believed the necessity of being, not just in the necessity of a first cause. In this sense, he...

Is Conscience a Hindrance to Worldly Success?

No, I don't think so. The King of Thailand is very compassionate, and one of the riches kings in the world. He is said to have gone to every village in the country and walked every square foot.

Does Humanity Have An Intrinsic Worth?

Interesting. If the virus killed the humans but not the animals, I think the planet would be better off, in a way. Man is animals worse enemy. We justify ruling over and beating elephants. Its insane. I would not try to just save myself. It would be pointless.

    Is Plato Any Good?

The first time I read Plato's Republic I laughed because I thought it was a satire. In short, the man is nuts. I do feel he made a contribution to philosophy worth studying, but his solutions are deeply troubling.

Who Wants to Live Forever? And Why?

I want my soul to live on forever, but I do not know about forever in this life. There is too much death and evil on this earth. I find enough good in it to want more years (200 years might be nice, perhaps even 500), but not forever.

Which Choice Best Describes Your Faith (or lack thereof)?

Interesting. I expected the Christians to be in the minority for some reason even though they are the majority in the world. The problem, of course, is there is so much variety among Christianity.

    A look at Zen Buddhism

I would consider Buddhism to be an agnostic religion rather than atheist.

    Universal Reconciliation religion.

I am a Christian Universalist. The Bible really doesn't mention hell much, and what it says is very shaky at best. For starters, the Bible never says hell is a place (except for Satan and his demons); hell could be, for some people, like a consuming fire because God's love is overpowering when...

    After death, before the resurrection

I think the soul detaches from the body, and we are then a body and enter another dimension. I can't think of another logical option. If we get a new body, then it would require another birth process. ick.

Questions about the Eastern Orthodox faith

Interesting posts. I, too, have thought that it doesn't make sense that we had to murder Jesus in order to be atoned. I understand that most Orthodox believe that hell is man-made, and that hell is, so to speak, a consuming fire of love rather than a specific place? Is this right?

    Compassion in Hinduism v. Buddhism

Interesting. I would be interested in the Hindu sources, too. Generosity is embedded in Buddhism; its almost like their language.

    hi - Christian Universalist here

Hi, I'm an ex-fundamentalist, raised homeschool-Christian Patriarchy, turned Christian universalists who enjoys studying liberal ideas and other religions. I love people in all their shapes, colors, and perspectives. I am also a woman in her upper 20s (yikes). Most of the time I am leaving in...
