Is forced labour in prisons ethical?

No, except to visit a friend once. I've been incarcerated for mental health reasons, I sure am glad that they didn't stick me in solitary confinement for refusing to work. You mean you are done dodging my question in my view.

Is forced labour in prisons ethical?

Something an inmate applies for is not forced and thus irrelevant in my view. Any starting suggestions?

Is forced labour in prisons ethical?

Have you ever been in solitary confinement in a prison context? The recommendation of the Australian Human Rights Commission was that it only be used as a last resort if i recall; '77. Multiple studies confirm that the use of solitary confinement in institutional settings is often harmful...

'Penal labour is a term for various kinds of forced labour[1] that prisoners are required to perform, typically manual labour. The work may be light or hard, depending on the context.[2] Forms...

I never said they were useless to society, only that they may well be unfit to work for various reasons. Do you believe we should abolish retirement due to your in my view false dichotomy of fit to work or useless?

I give my child chores, but I dont stick them in solitary confinement if they refuse to do them. Instead I explain the need for us all to play our part and urge them not to be lazy if they stop. Its been far more productive in my view.

Peak Australian Islamic groups seek to whitewash religion of religiously motivated terrorism in my view

I can agree to that, some retraining of the director general would be in order provided he can't justify the seemingly false implication of his comments that all sects of Sunni are a problem. Although this maybe a problem that many Muslims feed with the oft repeated marketing claim that there...

Is forced labour in prisons ethical?

Prison without the solitary confinement for striking seems like a good start in my view. True :)

Is forced labour in prisons ethical?

Agreed, but I find it helpful to make an informed opinion Well if nobody forces governments to legislate and enforce those conditions then they won't exist in reality, so I believe there is a point to having them ironed out accordingly

Is forced labour in prisons ethical?

I'm not advocating that we abolish prisons, only that we remove punishment and replace it with isolation unless and until the point of rehabilitation. Agreed Me either unfortunately, but I still care about it even if I don't have a solution.

Is forced labour in prisons ethical?

Well your argument appears to have been that people who are in the general population are forced to work. Do we stick people in the general population who go on strike in solitary confinement? It seems a system prone to abuse to me.

Is forced labour in prisons ethical?

OK So you believe people commit crimes because prison is not punishing enough? I don't, I believe the causes of crime are far more complex and that punishment does not deter those causes. Well for the record I'm not denying that prisoners who want to work should be allowed to. So how do you...
