What is one thing normal your country that is odd in other countries?

Our "how are you?" are actually hellos.

We tend to get a bit annoyed when we smile at strangers and they don't smile back. A split second annoyance.

I mentioned in a reply we have bear crossings and one time I saw a mountain lion crossing.

We Americans (well they, I don't drive) tend to play chicken with pedestrians (ideally we have the right away) not realizing a car going 50 miles per hour, to me, has the right away-. (Don't worry. I can wait.)

People tend to think Americans are all about work and not family oriented and have no culture

I haven't been to other countries before, though.

Back to my adopted country

You can discuss you latest operation or your sex life over dinner with friends but it is taboo to discuss your work

  • The longest coastline in the world (243,000 km)
  • Millions of lakes (more lakes than the rest of world, combined)
  • The world's oldest known rocks (up to 4.28 billion years)
  • Poutine (French fries served with gravy and cheese curds)
  • Butter tarts (not to be confused with Quebec sugar pie, also a treat)
I mean, what else could you ask for? :D

I misread that thinking Poutine was Poitin. Fries are not the thing that put me off alcohol over 30 years ago
