Getting into macro-level activism

Question: I'd be interested to hear... what activism are you involved in, to improve the condition of humanity on a macro-level? And how exactly are you involved?

I ask because I'm looking for ideas

I'm a Christian so being "saved" is very important to me, indeed it is the most important thing, as it determines my future. But this is not a very labour intensive concern!

I believe salvation comes from faith and faith alone - but that spiritually, "works" and "good deeds" are very important too and are the natural consequences of having a relationship with God and that it's morally right to do such things. Indeed, I believe there is a moral imperative to do "good deeds"

I am therefore keen to do good deeds

I define a "good deed" as any action that improves the welfare of other humans (on a micro level) or improves the general human condition on (a macro level). I believe this is best done through changing the world - through activism!

I already support charities and volunteer - so that's making a difference on micro levels...

But I want to do stuff on macro levels too

I'm thinking of supporting Amnesty International and Greenpeace - to help make a difference regarding human rights and our environment

...any suggestions?

Marilyn Manson once said that you can't change the world, you can only express yourself. If you're looking to change the world through activism, good luck! I don't think you will get very far.

If you want to help raise awareness or solve issues that you see as having a global impact, you can definitely do that, but first you have to define what these issues are and the far-reaching negative consequences of your solutions to them. It's more likely that you're going to do more harm than good in the long-run, or else try to thrust your own opinion on how things should be on a greater number of people.

At that point, I recommend becoming rich and famous and then just throwing money at it. You'll build your empire in no time.

Vegetarian or vegan diet. Tell others. The only mouth you control is your own. >>>Reverse global warming. Reduce pandemics.

In our family, activism is called "Volunteering our time" and "Voting with our dollars". It's "Giving Charity", that's how we are activists in my family.

Here's 6 of my favorite charities and organizations where I have volunteered ( past tense / pre-covid ) and/or donate money:

NAACP
Environment Oregon
Maimonides Day School
Planting trees in Israel
League of Women Voters
The DaVinci Foundation

That's activism for us. We ( my family and I ) have been donating and volunteering like this for years. It's our version of activism.

Further, since we can't volunteer in the normal manner ( because of covid ), we have been more generous with our charity. Giving a little more to the charities we already support, and also giving a tiny bit to charities we don't know. Basically during the virus, anytime we see an opportunity to give, we give a little. Not a lot, just a little.

That's our version of activism. Activism from the back of the crowd, if you wish to imagine it in your mind's eye. We are engaging in activism, from a safe distance, from the rear, providing support to those on the front lines.. Volunteering our time to causes we believe in, and giving a little extra money when the opportunity presents itself. We are... the rear guards of the column of the protesters... in a manner of speaking....

Does that help answer some of your questions about activism? And How me and my family define it and engage in it?

Yes, that's what I had in mind

But at some point I'd like to go to the front line for a bit, depending on the cause

When you're ready, I'm with you. I'll back you up just like any good friend would.

And if we get trampled, bro... we'll either get trampled and gassed together, or I'll drag your carcass back to the rear where it's safe.

I've got your back, Eddi. But for now, I think it's better for both of us to let those at the front do their job, and we should remain in the rear where it's safer.

We can do a lot of good simply role modeling the highest standards of moral behavior *here* as the rear guard.
