In any case, I happened upon this old timeline of evolution I had brought up to date and thought it interesting enough to share.

That's a good point. There may be some survival value in keeping the engine warm between uses compared to shutting it down and restarting it as needed.Depends on what one considers a survival necessity.

I have heard countless euphemisms for the act, but this is the first tie I have heard it called "squeezing the spinach".
