Why are most religious followers irrational?

It is actually a fallacy, there are often good politicians. In our (Australian) system they are usually independents. like any evolutionary process, the enemy must be confronted to be successful. Our party politics (about equally based conservative and liberal) makes it particularly hard to compete as an independent for votes against those of the parties which have mega dollars, so when one makes it through they often become very powerful, because they often hold the balance of power. So I think many of your comments are naive. However in systems where the major party is supported by multinational commerce whose interests are purely the return to the shareholder, the Democratic process often fails as it is unrepresentative of the people instead be the front end of corporate industry. The end goals are definitely NOT the same.

Cheers

He was just joking basically, not meaning that in truth there are no good politicians.

And i was just explaining the joke.

My knowledge of politics is limited, yes, by what I'm taught in school. They try to force the idea that America has the best one down our throats. (The only purpose for history class over here isn't so much to teach history as to instill patriotism in the youth... now that I think about it, that's not a whole lot better than what creationists want.)

Exaggerating, more than joking.

In my limited opinion, the best political leader in history was King Ashoka... after he converted to Buddhism. ^_^

the first point I think with any theologically study is mute, and my post was directed towrds teh concept of God not specifically Christianity.

Hardly moot (not mute, btw, a freindly spelling hint) when it is you who brought up logic.

And my post was also referencing the god of Abraham, Jehovah.

This is true. American history classes are more a source of propaganda than education. Most of what I learned about history and politics I learned on my own outside of school.

Is not going to save you.
You say you believe in science, yet you believe in a god which has yet to influence your life. I see arguments like "God did this for me or God did that", that Is a terrible argument to proving any gods existence. I could say that a unicorn gave me my great job and helped me through tough times. Obviously you would not believe it since you cant see, hear, touch, or examine this unicorn. So why do god believing religious groups so aggressively peruse validation for something they cannot validate? Trust me if you were to show me even a tiny shred of the existence for a supernatural all knowing being, I would change my mind. Untill then I will not delude myself with such nonsense.

Thats a very bigots view buddy.

I am sorry, but that's not how it is. We are not judging what can religion do for us, religious people benefit from religion in their lives, that's all that matters. Just because some use it in a bad way doesn't mean we should discard it.

Should we discard politics?

Some people use it in a bad way.
That is how it is. We know how religion works against us, but what is it good for?

Who is "WE", who is that?

Because it seems to me that the majority of the world are actually religious in some way or another.

So if you mean by we, people who are against religion, then of course that is what you and them will think about it, you are against religion.

However, you are the one required to give me a good reason for why should i discard religion. I am not required to give you reasons for my belief, and i am not trying to convince to believe (Am I?). So you should provide a reason, not me, because you are the one that is trying to convince that my belief is faulty.

We know religion works against us when killing is done in the name of God, such as when planes were flown into the World Trade Center, and when the religious impose their views on science and how it should be taught. I can give numerous examples of the religious oppressing homosexuals and women as well as children. So what is religion good for? I'm just asking because I can't come up with anything.

Okay, but there is a difference between that actions of some adherents of religion, and religion itself.

You are correct, some people do horrible acts in the name of religion, but the same goes for politics for example. Some Government officials do horrible things too under the cover of "National security", or any other political cover. Does that mean we should discard politics completely.

I suspect what you mean is that at least politics has a benefit, but that is not the case with religion. If that's the case, assure me that i'm correct and i will tell you why i think religion is beneficial.

We really should discard politics altogether, for the same reason we should discard religions. Again this is just in my ideal world, realistically neither one is going anywhere.

It's the irrational nature of the person which allows them to espouse religion (those based in mythology, such as abrahaic faiths mainly). They don't see it as irrational at all, and they think someone who says so is both incorrect and arrogant. Not much you can do about it.

Just name a moral kindness or action that a theist can do because of their belief, but that an atheist can't.

Well, that's a different view, and i respect it. But i don't think that most people who say that we should discard religion, also think that we should discard politics.

Can you (not an atheist in general, YOU) care for someone who could possibly be a threat to your life and lifestyle?

I don't think there is something impossible for an atheist or anyone who doesn't believe in God to do, that a theist or a religious person can, and i never said that.

Then what good is religion?

Let's see... a sense of structure, it can help an undisciplined person (like myself) develop discipline, it has some DARNED good stories...

It's purely on an individual level.
