Why do you believe in religion?

Yes, I think they are more evolved. As for what to fear? Isn't that obvious? The Abrahamic religions are based on fear and guilt, damnation, 'Us' or 'Them' concepts. I think there has been enough rope over time for these Abrahamic religions to hang themselves once and for all.

Because everything just exists, and eventually each thing will die at some point or another, and in the big picture, nothing matters.

Life did not begin with you or I and will not end with you or I. I believe our own life experience is a little bit like school for the next life. Yes we are passing through this one but it is necessary for the next one.
Nothing comes out of nothing. Everyone and everything exists for a reason and it isn't nothing.

Well, I don't believe that is true, but that is why I believe that life is worthless and you don't. :D

Quite untrue 'notecard'
Nothing dies, energy cannot be destroyed, everything merely passes into another quality of existence. Your existential outlook is only hindering your 'Great Work'.
Believe me when I tell you there is Karma and there are incarnations of the Soul. There is life inside you waiting to be born.

I have asked my (Non-atheist) friends time and time again why they believe in religion, and none of them can give me a good reason, so I did some thinking and I think I've got it.

THE ONLY REASON PEOPLE BELIEVE IN RELIGION IS BECAUSE OF PARENTS!

When you are born, you have no concept of religion, parents put that idea in your head. I would like your thoughts on my idea.
I don't believe in religion. I believe in a loving God that I have a relationship with.

*Sigh* When my dead corpse decomposes, some grass or something might grow from it's nutrients, but I will still be dead, and eventually the grass will die, and allow something else to grow, but we will all eventually be dead. Each thing only lives once... When it dies, other things can live, but they will eventually die too, so it is just a long worthless cycle.

Well I still get the feeling that what you mean is that you don't know what life is all about and frankly no one does fully. That doesn't make it worthless and the day does come when hope makes it's splash on the scene in everyones life. Hope is born of love and is remarkably powerful.

What I mean is what I said... I believe that we all just happen to exist, for so reason at all, and everything in life has absolutely no meaning at all... Nothing... We will all die, and that is it... Then one day the sun will engulf the earth, or extinguish, and there will be no more life here, but I'll be dead then, so it won't matter to me.

Do you believe that to be true for everyone?

Wrong again notecard,
Not only does your physical continue to exist in other realms but the most important parts of you, your Ka, Ba & Akh are immortal and will incarnate.
Stay here on the physical plane, there are those born and unborn yet, that will need you.

The word "religion" is never used in the OT.

Moses does describe how God should be worship and why people should pray, and sacrifices should be made, but he never use the word religion in the Torah. Moses founded early Judaism, but the word Judaism is not found anywhere in the bible.

If you look it from the religious perspective, then I think you are supposed to believe in God, not in the religion. But heck. What do I know? I am not religious.

I don't appreciate you telling me that I am wrong... I disagree with you guys, but I'm not going to tell you that you are "wrong." You can believe whatever you want, and I am not going to attempt to tell you otherwise.

Nice matters doesn't it.

No... I don't think you understand what I am saying... It is my belief that there is no God, and that human life is worthless, along with every other form of life... Everything is going to die, there are no souls and whatnot, and no one has a purpose to make a difference in the world...

Even though our lives are meaningless, we can still be nice to eachother and have fun, since we have to be here anyway... It is nice to be kind to people, but in the end we will all be dead with absolutely nothing to show for having been alive... That is what I believe... I believe that.
