is religion dangerous?

At times, religion can be very dangerous. Many religions are two edge swords that inspire some people to great acts of human decency and others to great acts of human indecency.

It seems to me a fanatic is someone who doesn't care who they hurt in their cause.

I evolved.
Some religions are, clearly, dangerous.

Every theist reading this post probably considers his/her religion harmless - and I'm sure they mean no harm at all - however, they are only half right.
How can you possibly tell a suicide bomber "You won't actually get 72 virgins for doing this" when you believe similar fairy tales like a worldwide flood, or virgin births, or reincarnation, or eternal life in heaven? Why would any dangerous theist listen to you, when you are talking about very similar nonsense?

And, of course, what about the innocent children you are brainwashing?

You knwo agent smith, not all religios people are phsycopaths who run around converting people. There are decent religious people in the world. Take Mahatma Gandhi as an example.

I don't think Smith is arguing that all religious people are psychopaths, Penguino. It's more subtle than that.

Religions can be both positive and negative. Depends on what they teach. You cannot simply lump all religion together.

Not a fan of fables.
Clashes are bad, and they occur way too often. Besides the unity and false hope religion brings, it causes wars and conflict as well. I think the world would be better off without the stress of cultures not accepting each other, which is what many religions preach.

Reliigon has brought about far too much war so it has always been dangerous, and now extremists are born making religion still a dangerous ingredient in society.
We also have those exploiting God for their own benifice, to the detriment of innocent and often helpless people. What is the world comming to?

I agree with the concept of religion. Giving some people something to hope for, it gives some people something to live for. Some people take it too far though, preach their believes on others forcefully, go to wars over it, judge people for it. I think religion causes just as much bad as it does good, only because people can be extreme at times. I'm under the impression that religion has probably saved just as many people as it has destroyed, so who knows. Anything can be dangerous if not handled properly.
