A few thoughts on the classic idea of Hell

Phasmid

By the, "classic" idea of Hell, I mean fire, demons and sharp, pointy sticks. I know many Christians don't believe in this kind of Hell, but there are some that do, so this got me thinking.

If there are a finite number of demons in Hell and the number of humans is being increased continuously throughout the history of this planet, then surely there'll come a time, when the damned can rise up against the legions of Satan and claim Hell for themselves?

Also, how could an all-loving God possibly condemn atheists to this eternal torture, simply because God wont give them any hint that He exists? I mean, why does God need us to believe without proof? It's like He's teasing people and those, like me, who get fed up with it, get thrown on the fire.

You want God to be on an equal footing with you? Do you feel like God's equal? Do you feel God needs to prove his existence to you? I would be careful for what I wished for. Do you really want another flood or a whole city to suffer? The next time God comes back to earth is not going to be a very pretty day my friend.

How would God just giving people a tiny hint that He's not a construct of human anxiety make Him any less higher than us?

None of you are stupid. That thought certainly is. I mean, finite numbers of demons? I hope todays Christians dont really believe that.

I thought demons were fallen angels? Are you saying God allows them to procreate?

Demons, as fallen angels posses a power that humans cannot match. Remember one angel slew about 200,000 Assyrians.

Nope.
I judge God based upon His standards, just like he will judge me
Mat 7:2 (GNB)
for God will judge you in the same way you judge others, and he will apply to you the same rules you apply to others.
I do not buy into the "you cannot question the creator for he has the right to destroy what he creates philosophy." Which is usually followed by something like "Gods is not bound by his own rules."

Do you feel like God's equal? Do you feel God needs to prove his existence to you?
equal, no.
Seems to me that people of this day and age have better morals than God.
Slavery is a prime example of this.

I never did understand the whole "I cannot prove I exist because proof defies faith and without faith I am nothing"
But then it almost always boils down to "God is unknowable" and/or "Who are you to question God?"

I would be careful for what I wished for. Do you really want another flood or a whole city to suffer? The next time God comes back to earth is not going to be a very pretty day my friend.
Thus showing that this allegedly all loving just deity is neither.

And before you (or anyone else) starts with the whole "we are all sinners and are born to go to hell" nonsense, I do not believe it.
So your sermon (if it comes) will fall on deaf ears.

Remember the giant that David killed with his sling? That was the off spring of fallen angels and mortals.

Yeah, but angels don't get jiggy with it as often as humans surely? How many giants have you seen lately? Where are all these crazy events in modern times?

Humans are right up there, however. One B-29 crew slew about 90,000 Japanese at Hiroshima, and it rose to about 250,000 total dead when you add in the leukemia cases.

I've never understood how an all-loving God could create such a system. I never asked to be born...

So for God to prove himself to those who are skeptical, he does not simply show himself or speak to them, rather, he just creates calamitous disaster?

How loving and reasonable.

God proves himself every day for those who choose to listen. God will bless you if you are ready to receive his gift. This reminds me of my foot ball days. I fancied myself as a star quarterback. My team mates where not paying attention and where not ready to receive the ball that I could throw really far and really fast. Had they been ready, they would have recieved the ball. By the time I threw the ball, it was too late. They were not ready and the ball hit them squarely in the face.

You have to be ready to receive God's gifts as well. They are coming at you ready or not, just like the football.

How can you distinguish between "God's gifts" and random occurances? Or are they one and the same?

OK, sure. But now we have a different dilemma with the new religious sect that follows the Gospel according to Johnny Unitas. Who is correct, then, despite the remarkable similarity in it's message of awareness? :D
