I consider myself enslaved

timeclocks
paychecks

and the economy is constructed to keep it that way

however......the task masters are no longer able to "stay the course"

and the 'chain'....is about to break

Until we get the STTNG economy wherein replicators make
everything for free, you'll have to work. Capitalism, socialism,
communism, feudalism....you name it...you gotta work.
Now, get crack'n! I need your tax dollars.

Right wing senator Tom Cotton claims to be quoting (with no reference) the founding fathers when he says that "Slavery was a necessary evil", and goes on to say racism is not endemic in American society?? How endemic does your racism have to be to call slavery a necessary evil?? This is just outrageous, but I'm sure Trump will back him up!!

GOP Sen. Tom Cotton called slavery a 'necessary evil' in an attack on a New York Times project exploring America's history of racism

Truly disturbing. People who think Trump is some anomaly who doesn't represent modern conservatism really need to open their eyes.

What? Me worry?
I think you can find multiple sources that show Sen. Cotton freed his slaves long before he took office. BTW, an unfortunate choice of last names for this discussion.

It is outrageous, although it also shows that America's history of racism and history of capitalism run parallel with each other.

I remember having an argument with someone who suggested that having paid labor pick cotton instead of slave labor would have been "ruinous" for the US economy.

I think the study and debate on America's history of racism can get somewhat disjointed, as most Americans might condemn racism today, yet many still consider capitalism a sacred cow which should be worshiped and glorified.

I guess this is what it takes to reach the core Republican vote these days.

Unnecessary.

Slavery is an agricultural evil if we go by Guns Germs'n Steel. Historically Agriculture meant people had to work in fields. People would then accumulate multiple fields and require other people to work their fields for them. Around the world it was very common for this to be the lowest caste, and the lowest castes have had many names such as 'Peasant' and 'Slave'. Many people have justified large farms with similar arguments, all calling slavery necessary. We know that it was never necessary, because we can point to civilization that have lived without agriculture. One person can run a farm, too; and they can do it without slaves.

Sad really, that this blatant mockery of slavery is somehow accepted as some kind of legitimate complaint of having to actually earn a living.

well....don't get me wrong
I like the work I do
and I don't mind working long hours

but it's not a form of freedom
I could just quit........yeah right
I'm free to do that......yeah right

Maybe you should tell your employer that he's paying you slave wages, and wait for his reply??
