Desolation...What is it?

What are the qualifiers for being desolate?

I did find one sign that marks the desolation: People lock the doors to their homes. The fact we even have locks on our homes, qualifies as being desolate.

Anyone find any other qualifiers for being desolate?

Hi there, Another new member here!

Desolation. Wow, that's a very strong word. I think of desolation as being completely devoid of life. Even the person who hides behind locked doors is still alive. And as long as there is life, there is hope.

Not sure if that's what you were looking for. That's my take on it.

Perhaps you could narrow the parameters by explaining in what context you use the word.
