The Bible seems to always promote a flat earth belief over a spherical earth

Another question for ya...

Does a circle or ball have four corners?

Of course not so the four corners evidently refer to something else. Maybe N, S, E and W.
This seems to involve flat earth believer believing in four corners while still having a circular earth. Does a globe support four corners even better than this example?

Just because it wasn't used in the sphere sense in the Bible it doesn't mean the word didn't exist. It could have said it was like a ball rather than being a circle, etc. Why did God help create a Bible that overwhelmingly supports the flat earthers and not even support globe believers one tiny bit?

Anyway the Bible itself compares something to a ball.

Google the origins of the word sphere.
The first usage of the word sphere.

It all disagrees with the poster in quora

The Bible uses analogies or similes sometimes (like Isaiah 40:22 which I explored in the original post).
It could have said it was like a ball (which was also in Isaiah)
Or it was like a grape or a pea, etc.
I think every single analogy or simile about the earth in the Bible doesn't fit the globe (see the opening post Bible verses image) - except Job 26:7 which says the earth hangs on nothing (though this is also compatible with modern flat earthers).

A square circle? Its funny some things people dream up.

So four corners equal square but its described in the bible as a circle and of course circles don't have corners.
A somewhat related thing is:
Psalm 103:12
He has removed our sins from us.
He has removed them as far as the east is from the west.
As usual the globe doesn't fit this Bible verse.... on a globe at some point the east and the west meet up so that there is zero distance between them....

Keep in mind that Biblical references to "the sphere of the Earth" and the like often refer not to the shape of the ground, but to the sky: believed to be a solid, spherical dome or vault over a flat Earth.

Oh my, did I say that!

I had no idea "flat-earthers" still existed. Maybe I just live too close to the ocean that reaches farther up the shore every year instead of pouring off the horizon.
We had one on the forum a few months back trying it on but I think he got just a little bit angry and was banned - or just left disappointed in having no conversions. Shame the YECs are still here, given that they are wasting their own time as well as our time. o_O

Keep in mind the word sphere didn't exist when the bible was written. The bible mentions circle but yet also mentions four corners. Circles don't have four corners.

I asked a question before and never received an answer. Maybe you can answer...

In ancient writings before the bible, how was the shape of the earth described?

Define "before the Bible." Different books were written at different times.

Parmenides (6th-5th Century BC) wrote about a spherical Earth.

Eratosthenes not only described the Earth as a sphere but calculated its diameter pretty precisely around 200 BC.

Before the bible simply means before the bible. When the first book was written, the bible existed(though incomplete)

Where are their writings?
Not what we think they meant but what they actually said.

From what I read it seems sphere evolved from circle, ball, globe.

The Bible like the Quran reflects the world view of the culture at the time they were written. The Bible reflects Flat earth/geocentric view of our universe. The Quran describes a geocentric view of our universe, which reflects the beliefs at the time.

Various Greek and other philosophers proposed a heliocentric belief at various times in ancient history but they were not accepted. The Heliocentric belief in Islam developed in the 10th and 11th century. In the 16 century in Christianity Nicolaus Copernicus confirmed experimentally the helio centric view/

Exactly! But they are judged by using today's knowledge.

Well then what word did they use to describe spherical fruit like grapes which were surely known. Orb? the concept definitely predates the Bible and existed. A spherical earth may not have been known to the culture that actually wrote down the stories but spherical objects with descriptions would have been.

But . . . judged? Needs clarification. Do you consider these ancient mythologies in any sense true? How ould you propose we consider ancient myths like those in the Pentateuch?

I prefer considering these ancient world views in the context of their time and culture. This true for Chinese mythology of dragons and creation mys form all cultures of the world.
