Do you like your given name? If not, why? If so, what do you like about it?

I hated my given name in grade school and actually asked people to call me by my middle name.

As I grew older, I really liked my given name, and I wouldn't trade it for another, except for perhaps Nick or Mark.

How do you feel about your given name?

I hate my name. Its Krista. Its an okay name for someone else, but it doesn't fit me.

I met a Krista once. She was energetic, enthusiastic, and feminine. I felt the name belonged to her. I'd have happily let her keep it all to herself.

    Me, I'm George!

Let's just say I wish we lived in a culture where the cultural norm was every child had to go through the process of selecting their own chosen name as a rite of passage into adulthood.

I hate my given name. I don't identify with it and stopped using it to all intents and purposes a long time ago. I use my middle name but I can't say I like it much better. Both names are too girly sounding; the first one is way too popular and on top of that it's spelled in a less common way; it's not a made-up spelling, just lesser used, so folks are constantly mis-saying it for some reason, even though when I worked at school a 10 year old child rightly pronounced it from reading my name tag and this was a girl who was basically illiterate and had a tonne of trouble reading.

Yah... I hate my given name. It certainly isn't Sigurd. It's a biblical name based after a character in the bible who just sits by and takes whatever punishment is given to him because he is a dutiful and obedient son.

As someone who tends to be a pushover and someone who is prone to manipulation, that is the exact opposite of what qualities I want to embody. Thankfully, I've made a hell of a lot of progress. :D

I don't think I'll change it, though... I'm too well known by it to be known as anything else now.

As you know, I changed mine. I didn't mind my given name, which was Alan. Mom was convinced I was a girl, and had selected Helen, her mother's name. When she discovered I was a boy, she picked the closest male name she could find. Of course I love my name now.

Yeah, my mother hoped I was going to be a girl. My name would have been Debbie.

What is the saying? A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.

I do not place much importance on names. If someone yells: HEY YOU! I even will answer to that one. On the other hand, couples can come up with some strange sounding names. I can see how this can invite teasing from some.

I think who one is will overshadow any name in the long run. I knew a man who had a very unusual and strange name. This man was so loving and kind to all that soon that strange sounding name referenced love and kindness. One's actions will speak above any name.

    That's what I see. It's very clear!!

If I were a boy I would have likely been a Connor, which would have made my first and last names the same as those of my crush at school.

This makes sense to me. So much happens that we, as adults, can't choose. (Circumcision, baptism, diet, etc.) I know it's not realistic, but for names, it could be all seen as temporary names.

I'm ok with my name. My wife gave it to our son. His wife gave it to their son. So I guess the women folks find it satisfactory. Three people with the same name living at the same address. Mail gets a bit confused sometimes though.

Myself, I would have liked to be named Xavier. I don't know, I guess it'd be cool having a name that starts with X.

My other grandson's name is Jaxxon. Pretty cool a name with two Xs. :)

I'm William. I usually go by Will. I've no issues with it.

Unfortunately your name is one of my favorite female names, but I get why you don't like it. It is very feminine. Strange that people mispronounce it a lot as it's just the French spelling, as far as I know.

I don't really like my name, which is why I go with a shortend version I find more appealing. Honestly I think names should be a reflection of one's own interpretation of the self, rather than someone else's. But name changes are a hassel and I don't feel *that* strongly.

I quite like my given name, as it's easy to make it more or less formal depending on audience, etc.
But man, it's common. (David, oft-shortened to Dave in my case)

I was in a work meeting the other day, with a client.
Of 12 people in the room, 4 had my first name. And each was a middle-aged white guy.

When naming our kids, we tried to strike a balance between less common, but not strange. That seemed like the friendliest position to put someone else in. Of course the kids themselves will have their own opinion on their names as they grow, but we were at least TRYING to think of it from their point of view.

There's some-sort of joke here about starr's, orbits, and being well-named.
    I swear there is.
I'm just too brain-fried to see it right now, I think!
