I was talking to a friend and we were talking about our options in life, I mentioned something I wanted to do and he said "you're a long time dead",I agree with this, and take it to mean "do it while you can" but with the proviso that it doesn't negatively affect others.

So what are your thoughts on "your a long time dead",I'm interested on any response.

I think the number one reason most people fail to live as fully as they can live is because they try to live up to the standards other people have for them, rather than their own standards -- even when living up to their own standards could be done in a socially and environmentally responsible manner.

Bronnie Ware was an Australian nurse who specialized in taking care of people during the last weeks of their lives. She was in the habit of asking them if they had any regrets. The number one regret of her patients was that they wished they had been truer to themselves.

People are seldom as true to themselves as they will someday wish they'd been -- no matter how often the wisdom of being true to yourself is preached to them. But as long as you're doing so in a socially and environmentally responsible manner, why not be true to yourself?

I think I agree with you, but could you elaborate?

This resonates Well with my philosophy to be content, in this world of fast paced life its good to tug the reins and take a breath to consider "is this for me, am I being true to myself", AFAIK you are a long time dead and you can do whatever without hurting others it's all good.

My mother is fond of saying: "Don't 'should' on yourself".

Perhaps tell him to bugger off. Then do as you please. I'd rather die whilst out hiking than sitting on my duff waiting it out.

I view it negative as I already died inside emotionally and I'm just on auto pilot so my body doesn't rot away.

    Yes! Surely!
And one other that my grandma told me, 'Don't let others 'should' on you', either.

Within the bounds of reason and decency, go your own way, do your own thing.

It’s really just the original “You only live once”. Unfortunately, YALTD doesn’t roll off the tongue as well as YOLO.

For millions it probably is, I think you just have to make the best you can of it.
