World War II was many things, including the most important and biggest armed conflict in history.
The moral character of Earth was decided by WWII
What was in the balance was Planet Earth's moral status
Whichever side won would determine the moral character of humankind
For the time being at least...
A big "up yours!" to the defeated powers of WWII
The allies won and founded the United Nations - good prevailed and God classed homo sapiens as a good civilisation, which was therefore worthy of joining the Federation, alongside various extra-terrestrial civilisations
The United Nations symbolises humanity's triumph over the Nazis

This is based on a similar proclamation issued by the Federation of Planets concerning the rights of all civilised beings
Something like this actually exists
Extra-terrestrials, who were in contact with God, closely observed WWII
They made themselves known by starting the "foo-fighter" phenomenon - by making their flying saucers visible to humans, basically showing off their presence
The aliens detected when the USA detonated the first atomic bomb in the world's first nuclear test
This proved to the aliens that the USA was the world's greatest power and so they chose to make contact with the USA - basically by showing up at their nuclear test site
Thankfully this didn't happen
Then the Cold War happened, in which humankind showed that it could refrain from destroying itself in a new world war even though it could - which also got rid of communism leaving democracy as the dominant form of government on Earth - alongside totalitarianism and theocracy which are very much minority forms of government
It has been decided that Earth is now ready to learn that extra-terrestrials are real, here, and good. Once this happens, Earth will fully join the inter-planetary community, under the guidance of God.
