Isn't it the intent of the crime considered a hate crime when the reason is against a particular religion?

My ancestors were Dutch sea captains for the Dutch West Indies company in 1621..

Americans didn't go to Africa and hunt down blacks, murder them by the millions, purposely sicken them, enslave them, run them off their land etc. But when already slaves were brought here Americans participated in slavery and are all racists. It was wrong and America shouldn't have joined in.

Native Indians here were hunted down and murdered by the millions, sickened on purpose, made slaves, ran off their land, etc. Why is that not considered racist?

Hate crime;
a crime, typically one involving violence, that is motivated by prejudice on the basis of race, religion, sexual orientation, or other grounds.

He already admitted he did it because of religion. That makes it a hate crime, not a racist crime.

Stanyon, the self proclaimed "liberal progressive" don't you have something better to do than defend church arsonists?? I'm wondering if you've ever met a racist person, as you don't seem to believe in racism
A true liberal progressive would correct false spinning of a current event.
There are illiberal liberals who try to make it about white supremacism
without evidence, simply because it confirms their prejudice against others.

There is a racial element just not the standard one to be expected. He is enacting a savoir complex as he is saving black people from a fantasy prison/oppression dynamic; white savoir complex. He wants blacks to return to their "pre-Christian religions" which is borrowing from the noble savage concept. He is assuming a lot of about African religions as if those would be better for people regardless of those people's choices. It's like a pity type of racism in which people are too stupid and blind to save themselves from a prison they can not see

Shad, You're taking the criminal's statements way to literally, he's not going to come out and tell you he did it because he hates blacks, he's going to make up some excuse, and you seem gullible enough to believe him.

Our treatment of the native Americans is dark episode in our history and is definitely racism.

As for slavery.. European slave traders bought slaves from African chieftains for pots and pans, liquor, tools an textiles.. Slavery was the engine of American prosperity.. everything from rice and tobacco to cotton to indigo..

They were not "already slaves".. They were captured especially for the slave trade. The first big push was labor for the Sugar Plantations in Brazil. They sold sugar and rum on the eastern seaboard and in European ports, loaded up on trade goods to trade for slaves in West Africa.

The slave trade regularly used the triangular trade route and its Middle Passage, and existed from the 16th to the 19th centuries. The first slaves in America were brought to New Amsterdam by refugees from the Sugar plantations.

Please read some history.

The first Africans slaves to be brought to British North America landed in Virginia in 1619. They arrived on a Dutch ship that had captured them from a Spanish slave ship. (<< they we're already slaves to the Spanish)

Slavery has been in Africa since 1500.
