California woman who dumped 7 puppies in garbage bin sentenced to jail

I guess I just don't understand some people.

When they arrested her, there were 38 dogs at her home.

I never can understand cases like this. What makes people do this? What's wrong with people?

I agree it's incomprehensible. Any schoolboy worth his salt knows the best way to get rid of unwanted puppies is to put them in a pillowcase with some rocks and chuck them in the river :D

Animal cruelty should be a felony IMO.

I was thinking the same thing. The classic way.

I don't know about a felony with some exceptions, but certainly a misdemeanor in most cases would seem appropriate.

All in all I just don't understand why people just can't take them to a shelter and say they are unwanted. Then it will be up to the shelter to decide whether they kill them or not. And a lot of times when they do euthanize , the dead puppies are donated for medical research.

I agree. My wife's miniature what ever it is nipped my ankle for no reason. Such animal cruelty should not go unpunished.

Weather classified as misdemeanor or felony, penalties should be tougher, and include more animal groups. Too many convicted animal abusers don't get much more than a slap on the hand, and if the animal is considered a nuisance (like the sicko who poured gasoline on a rat, set it on fire and video taped it in Evansville, Indiana) are not covered under any laws.

She may be an animal hoarder, which would point to a mental illness. In that case, I can understand why she would make the irrational decision to throw them away. So perhaps she would be better served by being put in a mental hospital for some time instead of jail.

That makes sense. Probably initially the first few dogs she decided to own were with good intentions. Then taking in more and owning 38 would probably contribute to some mental problems and inability to think straight. She should be banned from ever owning animals again.

I've put a few animals down.
    My goals....
    - Instantaneous death, so no pain.
    - Avoid prosecution by having no witnesses.
    - If edible, turn into food.

Yeah I don't disagree in the context of things, people that amuse themselves by showing or partaking in unusual animal cruelty acts on social media have clear mental problems.

It's not like filming hunting trips, private farm slaughter, or creative pest control like that guy with that uber cool mink and dogs flushing out and killing wild rats that have infested houses and farms or other places of business.
