Wisdom from Rumi

Spirit of Light

Be who ever you want
Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.

There is a life-force within your soul, seek that life. There is a gem in the mountain of your body, seek that mine. O traveller, if you are in search of that, don’t look outside, look inside yourself and seek that.

Word of wisdom like this is a huge driving force for me :)
Being fully free from everything both within and from outside of us

I take offense at you dictating what anyone's task is. Even if it were to seek love, so be it. Speaking of barriers, fathom how many you have.
The quote speak of what a Sufi is benefitting from doing, not about other people from other religions or spiritual paths.
Sorry to hear you are offended, that is something a sufi never intend to cause someone to feel.

1. Can I ask, I like the term life force than the word god since the latter is loaded word: why does a person talk to a life force?

2. Why not live the life force and experience it while withdrawing barriers and replacing them with positivity (such as, maybe love)?

Why personalizing the quote and defending it for other people with whom may have no problem with the quote?

It's exhausting to take offense for others and more than likely for yourself. There's no use in addressing offense when the quote is by someone who passed on not the messenger who said it.

I can only speak for how i understand this.
The life force is maybe what someone call soul/spirit that we have within us. But it can also be seen as the lifeforce that is the "driver" behind everything that exist (the one called God) But since i have no words that truly can explain what this life force actually is. it comes down to how i understand it (and my understanding has probably some errors in it)

Talking to the lifeforce is like asking for advice or guidance from within our own being. That is maybe the best way i can describe it right now

The barriers is our own Ego/self (to a sufi anyway) And until we have control of our ego we will not be able to see the barrier that lay behind the ego, so we struggle to gain inner wisdom

Couldn't figure which to use: optimistic, yellow badge, and heart. Very informative. I was learning about the term inner child and how you can talk to the inner child (the one who went through trauma) in order for her (or him) to feel safe. So, if I translated it, it would probably be like you (this life-force) is telling your inner child (your ego) it will be okay. I don't share the comparison, but if I understood it that sounds kind of like what that is (in UA language).

Its ok you or others see it or understand it differently:) i am sure i have still a lot to understand my self too' and barriers to pull down too

Yet the messenger who propogates the quote is immune to scrutiny? Tragic.

I looked up Life force (awhile back) in the dictionary. Here's what it said:

1. The force or influence that gives something its vitality or strength.

2. The spirit or energy that animates living creatures; the soul.

Spirit

1. The nonphysical part of a person which is the seat of emotions and character; the soul.

2. A highly refined substance or fluid thought to govern vital phenomena.

Soul

3. A a person's moral or emotional nature or sense of identity.

4. The essence or embodiment of a specified quality.

Life force is what animates all life.
Spirit is the act of animation (how I interpret it)
Soul is a person's identity (without the ego)

I guess the dictionary is on to something, eh? ;)

I guess i used a bit different words, but i do not disagree with what you found either :) it comes down to how each person have understood it :)

Which makes me personally wonder, @Conscious thoughts, why does defining life-force, spirit, and soul diminish the value of its nature.

How does the definitions diminish its nature?
