Why Was This Ad Banned?

The ad was likely banned because cannabis is still under federal prohibition, and this has limited research into the effects of this drug. Another factor is that the AMA still considers cannabis to be a "dangerous drug."

Says a lot about the power behind the push to keep medicinal cannabis out of the public arena....and out of public awareness.

I think the ad is misleading. Cannabis treats the symptoms not the disease. If one has a terminal illness, cannabis is not going to change the outcome, but it does allow one to endure with some comfort and dignity.

It wasn't banned (after all, you linked it right here), it was rejected by the independent private broadcaster. I've no doubt it was submitted in full knowledge that it would be rejected to generate exactly this kind of response. The "controversy" or their advert being "banned" will bring them much more of an active response that the advert being shown.

There are indeed people who work to prevent medicinal cannabis from progressing (wrongly IMO) but there are also people working to push it hard because they have a commercial interest in it (as is the case here). We need to find the rational middle ground between the two (through both the ridiculous partisan politics and gross commercialisation of medicine in the US don't help).

While I do think research should go into at least seeing if cannabis is effective in alleviating symptoms, it is technically illegal in many states in the US. I mean it’s like asking why alcohol ads were banned during prohibition. Ads still have to adhere to laws.

Yet, in the meantime, pharmecudical companies are getting FDA passes on producing drugs with horrible side effects... Some costing $1.00 to produce, and selling them for $750.00 per pill.

Yep, Martin Shkreli's 5,000 Percent Drug Price Hike Is Still In Effect | HuffPost

...And as we can all see plain as day, cannabis stocks rival the pharmaceuticals. That tells me something.

So in other words a useful medicine should remain buried under the rug because of your own irrational, emotional hang-ups? Because **** those who it could alleviate, right?
Depends. Are we talking about pharmaceutical products or recreational "get me high" type of cannibis?

Medical cannibis has the THC removed and has legit medical benefits.

I can see it in that regard. I suppose some doctors would be relieved even if it was for medical advertising given they probably get pestered day in and day out by what their patients see on the television. ;0)

I'd say each has it's own purpose. For those with more severe medical situations, maybe they'd want to be high. For those with minor issues, who don't like the effects of being high, then they could use the type that doesn't do that.

The THC itself has medical benefits for treating certain conditions. It's especially helpful with counteracting the effects of chemotherapy, as an example. But **** cancer patents because you've been trained to soil yourself in fear of a plant.

It should stay banned. Same as cigarettes ads.

This is the sort of ignorance that big pharma wants to maintain.

Cannabis was never a dangerous drug in the first place. It's banned status was due to a lie that it was a dangerous gateway drug and a menace to society. What it actually was, was a menace to the pharmaceutical industry because it has been used as medicine for thousands of years. Pharma drugs kill more people every year than all illegal drugs combined.

Cannabis is a schedule 1 drug...up there with heroin, when there has never been one single recorded death from a cannabis overdose...ever. Ignorance is keeping what is a legitimate medicine away from people who need it, especially children with epilepsy, from benefiting from the relief it produces. The evidence is all there and big pharma are still pressuring governments a keep it under ban. With what is known already about the efficacy of this plant, (with extensive studies already done) there is no reason for it to be illegal when three of the biggest killers, alcohol, cigarettes and opioids are legal and freely available.

The ad compared the Budweiser Beer commercial that was promoting alcohol, which is responsible for 88,000 deaths every year. I have heard it said that if cannabis had replaced alcohol for the last 70 years (that's how long it's been illegal) then many thousands of wives and children would never have experienced the physical and mental abuse suffered at the hands of drunken husbands and fathers.

It's time people educated themselves, stop believing the lies, and to see why there is so much unnecessary suffering in the world.

It's confronting to realise that those we trust to care for our health were never really that trustworthy in the first place. The system is there to make money.....at our expense.

More ignorance, sorry. Cannabis has been shown to cure some diseases when doctors had given up, as well as treating the symptoms of others without horrendous side effects.

e.g. There are so many cases where cannabis has cured certain types of cancer....certainly more humanely than chemotherapy. When used in conjunction with chemo, it is also shown to be advantageous for controlling the side effects. Why prevent people from trying it....what have dying people got to lose? Surely they should have a right to try it. What are the doctors afraid of? What pressure are they under to fail to even mention it?

If you have been told that you are dying, would you not appreciate the opportunity to try something with no adverse side effects and a natural source of medicine rather than a synthetic substitute?

And therein lies the problem. The AMA is pressured by the pharmaceutical industry NOT to upset their cash cow. They have literally been able to get away with murder up to now....but the groundswell of public opinion is growing as the truth comes to light. It never was about health....it was about wealth.

This is absolute rubbish! Cannabis is dangerous to big pharma's bottom line. They don't deal in cures, only in "treatments" that will last for the rest of a patient's miserable, side effect ridden, life.

More doctors are educating themselves and seeing the good results of cannabis based medicine...but if it remains illegal, their hands are tied. If they were to recommend any alternative treatment like cannabis, they would lose their licence. This is nothing more than a power trip, designed to keep the cash cow firmly in place. But the jig is up. The truth is out and the medical system is being shown up to be part of a juggernaut of greed and control. If you can't beat 'em, you have to join 'em....but consciences are being bothered. It takes great courage to stand up for the truth when your livelihood is at stake.

This is typical of the system we live in.....so many institutions are being exposed now as having greed as their prime motivator. Capitalism run amok.

"The love of money is the root of all evil"......now more true than ever.

As opposed to what?
Both my mom and my mother- in-law have gone to the hospital and been prescribed high powered opiates like Hydrocodon. Lots of people get prescribed that horror.

Why is some regulated THC somehow a bigger problem? I don't see it.

I don't belong to the AMA nor does my post in any way imply approval of their practices.

Just answering the question in the title, ma'am. :)

You can't help but see the hypocrisy when Budweiser can freely advertise their alcohol....a known killer and promoter of violence.

An active response was necessary if people are not going to be held in ignorance.

Commercialism drives all democratic systems but wealth and power are poor substitutes for truth and honesty in government and health care.
Propaganda works until people stop believing it. It's time to stop swallowing the Kool-Ade. The system has a vested interest in your continuing ill health. There are never any cures.....how many people ever realise this? Cannabis could change all that.

I would rather support a commercial system that has proven good results, than one which promotes continued suffering under the guise of health and well-being.

People need to know the truth.
