Let's suppose your kid is playing with a neighbor's kid and in a fit of anger breaks the other kid's toy. He apologizes to you - but is that enough? You, of course, forgive him but is there not more to do? Yes - he has to buy the other kid a replacement toy and it is not you who needs to forgive him but it is the other kid, the victim
But there's the rub - the other kid might not be in such a hurry to forgive - you have to apologize, buy a replacement toy, make good the damage - why go thru all that? Just cry some croc tears of remorse in front of a forgiving God - how long will that take? 2 minutes? done!
This happened at Penn State a few years ago. The Pedophile was outed nearly 20 years ago and what did the administration do? They forgave him! The coach, the Administrators and the pedophile got together, he got to cry and promise he would never do it again and they let him go! Who was missing from this meeting? The victim, the little boy who was abused
Same thing it seems happens in front of God - again we have God, the judge and the crying and promising criminal who would be forgiven and off he goes to enjoy heaven and the victim is left to suffer the rest of his life
That is why Hinduism has never taught begging for forgiveness - if forgiveness is like declaring bankruptcy, Reincarnation is like paying your debts, no matter how long it takes and that is exactly what Reincarnation is all about - we must account for our karmas - Hinduism is very clear on that
Finally the whole idea of Forgiveness makes no sense to me - it is like a student who drops out of school asking for forgiveness from his teacher for skipping a test - what is the point? You have already dropped out of school - whether you take or not take a test is meaningless now - same way, unless you choose Reincarnation, begging for forgiveness is pointless - you are not coming back, you are cheating your victims and creditors - i seriously doubt that God will help one cheat - but that is another post
It is pointless to ask for Forgiveness if you choose Reincarnation also - here you are getting a 2nd chance to make up for what you did - Grab it with both hands! Don't look at it as punishment but as a lesson. Too many Hindus view life, Reincarnation the wrong way - remember our goal is Moksha - not Heaven - Heaven is just begging for 3 square meals a day down on your knees for eternity - pleasures of the flesh and nothing more
Moksha is knowledge, Enlightenment and the only way to get knowledge is to do it! Our goal or journey rather is to follow in our Father's or Mother's footsteps - in God's footsteps - that is why we are reborn
