Why does God want humans to worship him?

In all frankness, the clergy want to get paid. Notice how touchy they get if you just sit at home in private worship. No, you have to make some pilgrimage, local or otherwise, to some random tourist trap and pay lots of money.
True, the clergy (of Christendom) want to get paid. Some paid a salary.
Whereas in 1st-century Christianity there was No paid clergy.
Even the apostles Paul made tents in order to support his volunteer ministry - Acts 18:3; 1st Thess. 2:9
Just as Jesus taught for free, he instructed his followers to also teach for free - Matthew 10:8 B
The only time Jesus 'passed the plate', so to speak was when he fed people with bread and fish.(aka fish sandwiches)
So, in genuine ' wheat ' Christianity there are No paid, No salaried clergy or clergy class.

First of all, this is a different world, a different culture, AND a different religion from the 1st-century proto-Church depicted in the NT. The world is more complicated, people are more mobile, diverse, and carry different sets of issues demanding a more professional pastoral care.

Second, Jesus instructed his disciples that “the worker deserves his wages.”

Your view is — begging your pardon — Pollyannaish where modern spiritual needs and 1st century practices are concerned.
