Women are raised and expected to restrain themselves and practice moderation. Men aren't, at least not to the same extent.
Men are also more likely to engage in high risk behaviors, amd are less likely to go to a doctor and are slower to seek medical attention.

Aspirational and realized aspirations are not the same thing. The goal may have been to do that in the 60s and 70s and strides were made, doesn't mean it just equalized everything, same with other actions taken that push things forward, even if they can also slide back a bit in the process

Like @Shadow Wolf said, men are far less likely to seek medical attention, both from physicians and psychiatric care. They're more likely to engage in substance abuse, less likely to seek aid for depression, and less likely to go in for screening of common and lethal diseases. *especially* things like rectal, colon and prostate cancers.
Am reminded of a Les Dawson quip:
'I can always tell when my mother-in-law is due to visit.......the mice hurl themselves into the traps!'

I should mention that sometimes the wife dies first, and then you've got an 'About Schmidt' situation where the man doesn't know how to feed himself and may die when there is nothing left in the cupboard. Men have this weird thing where if its something that their wife is supposed to do they just can't imagine doing it themselves, even if she's dead.
Just a few of the myriad reasons...
It's rather obvious. The males have far less nag tolerance memory than females.
