Pilate's court - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Opposed to the historicity of the trial are scholars such as John Dominic Crossan and Bart Ehrman

Caiaphas and Pilate Judged the Trial of Jesus

the Jewish historian Josephus, the Hellenistic Jewish philosopher Philo of Alexandria, and the Roman historian Tacitus are even harsher in their criticism of this Roman leader. Writing in A.D. 41, Philo condemned Pilate for "briberies, insults, robberies, outrages, wanton injustices, constantly repeated executions without trial, and ceaseless and grievous cruelty."

The Roman governor of Syria, Vitellius, dismissed them both from office in A.D. 37 because of complaints about their abuse of power. Accused of excessive cruelty

One can find scholars who oppose or support anything.

If you believe the scriptural record to be incorrect, what do you think motivated the writers to record what they did? What purpose do you think it served?
