What did Putin see in Hillary that was sooo threatening?
Clinton and Putin have had a long mutual relationship of distrust. She even went so far as to accuse his election of being rigged with a suspicious voter turnout. She's also been critical of their military and political decusions, annexes, homophobia, and human rights negligence. Even during her time in 2008 she was a vocal and persuasive criticized of Russian political decisions.

Which is probably why that famous "reset" was such a blinding success, eh?

Also, going on record, Putin is a vile human being not worth anything remotely like praise. This is the same man who asked gays coming to the Olympics to 'please not molest our children.' Anyone who decides to be his friend is also probably a vile human being.

...like Trump.

Birds of the same feather flock together.

Putin is accused by many russians of promoting fraudulent means of staying in power, assassinating his critics, and damaging democracy by promoting autocracy and censoring the media.

Similarly Trump hates the media as well.

Putin uses fraudulent means of staying in power. Here is what a Russian expert has to say in this distortion of democracy in russia.

“The results of the current Duma elections were falsified on the same level as the Duma and presidential elections of 2011, 2008, and 2007, the most falsified elections in post-Soviet history, as far as we can tell,” physicist and data analyst Sergei Shpilkin said to The Atlantic. “By my estimate, the scope of the falsification in favor of United Russia in these elections amounted to approximately 12 million votes.”

Perhaps Putin might have extended his expertise in subverting democracy in Russia to Trump as well, who praises Putin whenever he gets a chance, probably to register his heartfelt gratitude.

They might even be clandestine close business associates considering the reports I have read, and probably have drunk whiskey and vodka together with each other in some luxury suite, remarking how they have fooled the eagles and bears with some cheap tricks and got away with it, lol in the process , and giving high fives to each other.

Whatever else one might think of Putin and Trump... the US was driving towards direct confrontation with Russia with the previous administration and Hillary was going to continue that. Trump wanted to stop that and renew co-operation with them. It's simple as that.

It benefits Russia to have an protectionist, isolationist America who is on good terms with their government. It will allow the Kremlin to project its influence further & further afield without having to worry about what America will do. Trump has pledged the former with his rhetoric of 'America First' and increasing the likelihood of the latter with his unilateral actions in America's relations with other countries.

The problem is that there are not that many countries in the world that hold the same high standards of those of the USA and the UK.

I was impressed by our prime minister’s visit with your president. She managed to get him to re-affirm his commitment to the US/UK special relationship and his support for NATO, but then she travels to Turkey and agrees a £100m defence deal.

I believe she has since issued a late-night statement saying she “does not agree” with Donald Trump’s ban on refugees and people from seven Muslim-majority countries entering the US, after coming under intense political pressure to condemn the order.
