as I am certain that America is an economically based society....

It seems to me.....a businessman should be president

not some old politician who doesn't know how to carry a speech

The cognitive dissonance among the NRA crowd would be amazing to watch.

The presidency is a leadership position. Business people are not good leaders by default. One of the worst businesspeople in the world was elected in 2016 and he did not have leadership qualities. (you can see where that got us)

Obama wouldn't be considered a businessperson to me, he was a constitutional scholar and community organizer.

Constitutional scholar = Understands the constitution thoroughly
Community organizer = Leadership qualities obtained

    Huh?
What's an economically based society? All societies have their economies.

A business, at least a capitalist business, is designed to make money for the owner(s). It's not designed to share profits or insure the prosperity of its workers. A business is a Plutocracy. A democracy undermines the whole purpose of a business.

A democratic government is focused on the welfare of its citizens, not on profit. Any monies are used for their benefit.

These require entirely different leadership styles. Their goals are completely different. Putting a businessman in charge of what's essentially a non-profit, public service provider makes no sense.

They seem to forget there are specific appointed economic positions in Government that take care of these things. It's not the president's responsibility.

Ehhh... In my opinion, it has less to do with the kind of man that should have the presidency, and more to do with ripping out the harmful aspects that our political system already has.

Limiting the amount of money spent on campaigns, removing lobbying altogether, expanding the two party system into many more parties, and getting rid of that damn electoral college would do much to sift out garbage presidents. It would remove some of that power the rich have over the poor/middle class, and it would force future presidents to reflect the nation as a whole more accurately since the competition would be much more fierce for them during the election cycle.

Unfortunately, the Republican party fights to keep anonymous "dark" unlimited donations. Republicans will also fight tooth and nail to keep corporate lobbying.
That's their only purpose in government. We can thank Reagan for giving the keys to our government to these Capitalist/Corporate/Corrupt organizations.
We've been only going downward since. The American people have been losing ground since, watching the American dream evaporate.
    All thanks to Republicans.

So, officially declare the United States a corporatocracy whose state religion is corporatism and get it over with, huh?

    Not a fan.

The Democrats don't accept donations from wealthy lobby groups or sign corporate written legislation into law?

I'm sure they do. But they wouldn't be sitting around approving of it like Republican do. They're the ones who set the stage with what politics currently looks like in America when it comes to corporate donations and lobbying.
It's a false equivalency to assume Democrats rely on corporate influence as much as republicans.
We don't need to go into which party is supported by the largest corrupt corporations in America.
Big Oil, Big Fossil Fuel, Big Pharma, Big Healthcare, Big Insurance, Big everything. It's all controlled by Republican corporate influence.
Sure you can point to Wall Street, but most Americans don't invest in Wall street so they're not effected by the decision.
Republicans on the other hand are hugely influenced by the MIC and Big Oil. Robbing Tax payers blind.
Big difference between the corporate republican party and the middle class democratic party.
Only 1 party hates Unions and American workers.

OK, what's an "economic position?" There are lots of civil service positions, but only a few specifically dedicated to economic management.

I'm curious of how americans (I'm one myself) would feel if an openly attired woman muslim became president or an openly effiminate gay man or a street thug (focused on stereotype not intelligence) became president.

Kind of a sensitive question but we've had predominate white presidents for centuries. Probably mostly christian and more likely straight (sexual orientation).

Do you think americans would be uncomfortable?

I know my parent said if a muslim became president, ISIS has taken over.

We need optimism. We need a sense of humor and play. We need someone who is (mostly) virtuous.

    There's always one good choice:

We should all consider the possibility that not every businessman
would be a good choice. Some are dishonest, thieving, & power mad.
