Why is Jesus thirsty and not drinking the water he's offering to the woman at the well.

Why does he ask her to draw water for him and he will draw water from her?

    John 4:14
but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

Because he's talking about a different 'water'; a different 'thirst'.

If you are spiritually thirsty. He was the water so he didn't need to drink from it. He drank from the cup of suffering.

    save face

    Revelation 2:10
Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown.

In other words, @Fool jesus is the cup. Salvation is the water. The creator (not jesus) pours the water so others can drink from the water not christ. When you are thirsty, the water hydrates you not the cup nor person who pours it.

I dont know how your post relates to my reply

the tzaddick usually do. job for example.

my cup runneth over. with much wisdom comes much sorrow.

22 “You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said to them. “Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?”

    “We can,” they answered.

23 Jesus said to them, “You will indeed drink from my cup, but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared by my Father.”

In my dream I was drowning my sorrows
But my sorrows, they learned to swim
Surrounding me, going down on me
    Spilling over the brim
Waves of regret and waves of joy
I reached out for the one I tried to destroy
    You, you said you'd wait
'Til the end of the world

    people are like books.

    Daniel 7:10
A river of fire was flowing, coming out from before him. Thousands upon thousands attended him; ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him. The court was seated, and the books were opened.

    Revelation 20:12
And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books.

    jesus isn't the cup

    i am the cup

    Matthew 23:25
“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.

    Matthew 23:26
Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean.

    Luke 11:39
Then the Lord said to him, “Now then, you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness.

I think Jesus is speaking of different water. And that water is his word, his teaching.

That's the problem with metaphors, you can be saying anything or nothing at all.

the body is a temple. the body is a cup, a vessel that carries something.

the three quotes relate to something carrying or containing something. like a white washed wall may look pretty on the outside but on the inside is otherwise.

    Ezekiel 13:14
I will tear down the wall you have covered with whitewash and will level it to the ground so that its foundation will be laid bare. When it falls, you will be destroyed in it; and you will know that I am the Lord.

you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.

The creator uses his cup to pour from it the water of salvation to those who thirst.

    The water quinches the thirst
The cup held the water in order for it to be given
The water itself wasnt given by the cup but by the one who poured the water into it.

but someone poured into jesus cup just as you've obviously understood.

Jesus answered, "My teaching is not my own. It comes from the one who sent me.

I AM that I AM has sent me to you.............

God said to Moses, "Ehyeh asher ehyeh (I will be what I will be)," and He said, "So shall you say to the children of Israel, 'Ehyeh (I will be) has sent me to you.'"

I usually dont regujitate scripture. I put it together by context and analogy so it makes sense to me first.

Water is salvation (literally and figuratively)

The cup holds the water (jesus holds the way to salvation)

The person who pours the water (the person who saves is the creator)

So the creator has water. In order to give the water to the thirsty, he needs a cup. He uses the cup to pour the water to those who thirst.

Its an analogy for contextual understanding of the messege in scripture. Something I used to understand it not verbatum in the bible. Ill be honest. I think for myself usually before taking someone else citations for it.

It does and doesn't. It is for some, isn't for others.

Yes. Its the creator that saves not jesus. He used jesus to give salvation to those who want it. Its a medium to relate his message his Word/message to the people by it being incarnated as a person. The incarnated message became the creators Word.

So the person who poured the water in the cup and the water is what saved. Jesus was an medium to that purpose not the purpose and original message itself.
