White Kitty Died Last Nite

For the past several years, White Kitty would stop by the house to give us severed
chipmunk heads, mousie guts, & rabbit feet. In return, I set out food & water (which
she graciously shared with possums, Black Skkunk, White Skunk & the racoons).
Sometimes, in her infinite magnanimity, would allow me to brush her fur.
But this morning we discovered her in front of our compound in the middle of the
road...skull & body crushed...intestine snaking down the road. At least she died
instantly...no suffering. So I scooped her up, set her in a snow bank (no room in
the fridge), & will bury her later today.
RIP, White KItty.
RIP.

So sad, RIP white kitty.

Edit. As the designated village cat lady feeding and caring for between 4 and 7 "chats errants" i know how attached you can get to these furry visitors.

With the ground frozen solid, I tried an above ground burial.
I piled grass, debris, & wood chips on top of White Kitty,
completely covering her. Well, the turkey vultures returned
with the warm weather, & decided to pay their respects in
their own tradition.

I have some white gallon containers on my porch awaiting
being taken elsewhere. I keep thinking I see White Kitty
out of the corner of me eye. But I'm pretty sure she hasn't
become re-animated. The Turkey vultures are seeing to the
elimination of that possibility.

Not to be callous, Rev, but if I were White Kitty, that's probably how I would want to go.

She was an outside cat, after all.

A couple times, Black & White Kitty has come to test the waters as White Kitty's replacement.
I've named it "Cow Kitty" because it reminds me of....

So far, Cow Kitty is skittish during its rare appearances.
I had a dream that it visited the other nite.

We also have a duck in our frog pond.
Clearly, it's attracted by the frogs' singing.

We used to have a friesian cow kitty, sadly it died almost 3 years ago. She was a real darling and character who loved bling, anything that glittered was hers.

And back in the UK we had it the other way round, frogs in the duckpond.

We have an elderly daschund who doesn't do much more than eat, sleep, and poop.

I dread the day she just doesn't wake up. My partner, her true doggy daddy, is going to make the rest of us living's life hell for awhile.

For a week or so, we've been visited by Invisible Kitty.
All I knew of it was tracks in the snow, & disappearing
food I'd set out. But last nite, #1 son saw it.
Invisible Kitty is now Calico Kitty.

I bought it a bag of food at Menards.
(On sale, & using rebate cards, of course.)

The cat we lost a few months ago was a calico mix, i miss her.

We feed twin strays, a male and a female black Persians. Beautiful cats but won't let a human within 10 feet. I long to bring them into the house on cold winter nights.

Keep up the good work

At times, I've set out cathouses for them to keep warm.
If Calico Kitty becomes a permanent regular, it'll get one.
White Kitty would brave -10F temps to wander & hunt.

I know you mean well, but the fact that these cats don't seek shelter on nights you think are 'cold' should tell you something. They seem to be thriving and surviving very well by themselves, thank you very much,

We put out a wool lined box for our [sic] strays. They are spoiled.

Oh, I know they have other haunts.
But I provide amenities out so that they'll come to entertain me.

Btw, -10F is objectively "cold".

I've used card board boxes lined with towels before.
But now I have a cathouse made from 2 plastic bins glued together.
I also have a furry foam filled cathouse from Menards.
