Which of the anti-war songs do you like?

Scuba Pete

Le plongeur avec attitude...
Well it's one, two three
What are we fightin' for?
Well I don't give a Damn,
Next stop is Viet Nam

And it's five, six, seven,
Open them pearly gates!
We ain't got time to question why,
Cuz, we're all gonna die!

I sang this while demonstrating against the Vietnam war. I need to find some current demonstrations for the current war. Heck, maybe I need to organize them.

"Blowin' in the Wind"
by Bob Dylan

How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
Yes, 'n' how many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, 'n' how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

Ooh, now that song hits me right in my heart. I'm gonna go tear up for a while.

Zephyr

Moved on
Battalions of fear
They search and they scream
For the American dreams
Battalions of fear
The way of R.R.
To show he is the star
Battalions

With hands full of blood
He talks about peace
With snake poisoning tongue
He's praying
El Salvador and Vietnam
You soon fast forget
But you satisfy on Afghanistan
You've been the master
You kill with a laughter
Your screams of peace are wrong and loud
Cause so we are and here we are
We scream and shout!
Your laughing about all the fools
Scream and shout!
With power of evil they stand

If anyone else knows this song I will love you forever.

I like the song "Apocalypse No" by Ted Quinn, just for the line (sung in an upbeat manner):

"Man made monsters, gods, and natural disasters...
I'm looking at the odds to see which ones arrive faster!"

:)

But man, there's tons of anti-war songs I love! Popular theme with those wacky psych-rock groups.

Edit: Might as well put in the full lyrics to that song...yes, it is an anti-war song in it's own quirky way!

"Looking at the war through rose colored gasses
Wars of the world to overdose the masses

How far will it go? How far has it gone?
How long has this been going on, as a matter of policy?

I ran into a neighbor, he was loading his gun
I said do me a favor man, put that thing down!
Man made monsters, gods, and natural disasters...
I'm looking at the odds to see which ones arrive faster.

How far will it go? How far has it gone?
How long has this been going on, as a matter of policy?

I take a deep breath anytime I can
You know you scare me to death when you start talking about your plan.
I know we're going to make it, but we better slow down
Please don't say it's the apocalypse now

How far will it go? How far has it gone?
How long has this been going on, as a matter of policy?

There's a tattoo'd martyr, standing on the corner
Blessing all the cars passing by,
As winter gets colder, the cross becomes heavier upon his shoulder
They called him a demon, I was driving the gremlin down, by the Circle K
They called him a pagan when they set him aflame, but he was not ashamed,
he was not to blame & he deserved to be addressed by his proper name."

Danny Boy is the story of a father who has 4 boys. The eldest 3 have all gone
off to war and been killed. Now the youngest, Danny all of 16 years old is old enough to go to war himself (the pipes, the pipes of war are calling him). His father knows the odds and realizes that Danny too will probably be a casualty. In the event Danny lives however, the father knows he’s so old and broken hearted at the prospects of losing all his sons that he will die of a broken heart. This is his farewell song to his youngest son.

This one has always given me chills:

Russians

Written by Sting [& Sergei Prokofiev]

In Europe and America there's a growing feeling of hysteria
Conditioned to respond to all the threats
In the rhetorical speeches of the Soviets
Mister Krushchev said, 'We will bury you'
I don't subscribe to this point of view
It'd be such an ignorant thing to do
If the Russians love their children too

How can I save my little boy
From Oppenheimer's deadly toy?
There is no monopoly on common sense
On either side of the political fence
We share the same biology
Regardless of ideology
Believe me when I say to you
I hope the Russians love their children too

There is no historical precedent to put
Words in the mouth of the president
There's no such thing as a winnable war
It's a lie we don't believe anymore
Mister Reagan says 'We will protect you'
I don't subscribe to this point of view
Believe me when I say to you
I hope the Russians love their children too
We share the same biology
Regardless of ideology
What might save us, me and you
Is if the Russians love their children too

And for something completely different...

Too Many Puppies, by Primus

Too many puppies are being shot in the dark.
Too many puppies are trained not to bark.
At the sight of blood that must be spilled
so that we may maintain our oil fields.

Too many puppies
Too many puppies are taught to heel.
Too many puppies are trained to kill.

On the command of men wearing money belts
that buy mistresses sleek animal pelts.

Too many puppies.
Too many puppies with guns in their hands.
Too many puppies in foreign lands.

Are dressed up sharp in suits of green and
Placed upon the war machine.

Too many puppies are just like me.
Too many puppies are afraid to see.
The visions of the past brought to life again,
Too many puppies, too many dead men.

I will resist war
I will not be seduced by hate
I'll live in service
the only enemy is my own heart
should I decide too late
to challenge the very name
for what is war
but rich spending poor inside a game

it's not just the bullets
it's more than cannons in a field
it's the brutal fabric
sewn by every crooked deal
and the loose threads of justice
pulled for this contest we are in
for what is life
if it takes them to die for us to win

are you listening?
there is a prophet in our midst
it is the corpse
a dead hand curled into a fist
will you ignore
the timeless story of the name
of what war is
and how it all turns out the same

oh truth--what's to be done?
they've made a liar of everyone

and every tyrant
is built a dollar at a time
so here's your hitler--
standing on nickles and on dimes
oh the crimes
being done everyday
and nothing's changing
it's all perpetuating hate

one more lie
one more battle
one more grave
war without end
and if the willing and the brave
and the deaths of millions
has promised no relief
then i take my life
and place it on the side of peace.

I am for the war, just not the political quagmire that surrounds it. Nor am I for the mess that it has become in the d****ned media. Our country is divided over it. I don't agree with that either. I have family in Iraq, and they tell me it is a mess, that death is around every corner. If they are there, my heart is there. The least I can do is support the cause. Greneda took ten years and more to get safe enough for their political government to run on its own. Iraq may take that long, and longer.
All the anti war graffiti just shows the enemies of America that we are divided, and therefore, have many weaknesses. It all brings my mind back to the Vietnam War, that has become an opinionated, templated for this war. Flower children running around in painted vans saying, Peace, Love and NO war. yea.
It was that kind of thing that shed bad light on Nam and in essence shattered moral for everyone and we ran out with our tail between our legs. Not cool. But, it is a free country, America I mean. So, yea, graffiti on....

Counting Bodies Like Sheep To The Rhythm Of The War Drums

Don't fret precious I'm here, step away from the window
Go back to sleep
Safe from pain and truth and choice and other poison devils,
See, they don't give a f*** about you, like I do.

Count the bodies like sheep
Count the bodies like sheep

Counting bodies like sheep
To the rhythm of the war drums

Count the bodies like sheep

Go back to sleep
Go back to sleep

Counting bodies like sheep
To the rhythm of the war drums

Go back to sleep
Go back to sleep

Counting bodies like sheep
To the rhythm of the war drums

Go back to sleep
Go back to sleep

Counting bodies like sheep

Go back to sleep
Go to sleep [x14]
Go back to sleep
Go back to sleep
Go back to sleep

Counting bodies like sheep

Go back to sleep
Go back to sleep

Counting bodies like sheep

Go back to sleep
Go back to sleep

Counting bodies like sheep
To the rhythm of the war drums

Go back to sleep
Go back to sleep

Counting bodies like sheep
To the rhythm of the war drums

Go back to sleep
Go back to sleep

Counting bodies like sheep
To the rhythm of the war drums [x2]

I’ll be the one to protect you from your enemies and all your demons
I'll be the one to protect you from a will to survive and a voice of reason
I'll be the one to protect you from your enemies and your choices son
They're one in the same, I must isolate you…
Isolate and save you from yourself …

--The video is great, it is animated George Bush passing out TVs to people and turning them into sheep, when some sheep start to wake up they are killed by the other sheep.

Let's Have a War - A Perfect Circle
There's so many opposites,
So many opposites,
So many, there's so many, there's so many

Let's have a war,
So you can go and die,
Let's have a war,
We could all use the money,
Let's have a war,
We need the space,
Let's have a war,
Clean out this place

It already started in the city,
Suburbia will be just as easy

Let's have a war,
Jack up the Dow Jones,
Let's have a war,
It can start in New Jersey,
Let's have a war,
Blame it on the middle-class,
Let's have a war,
We're like rats in a cage

It already started in the city,
Suburbia will be just as easy

Let's have a war,
Sell the rights to the networks,
Let's have a war,
Let our wallets get fat like last time,
Let's have a war,
Give guns to the queers,
Let's have a war,
The enemy's within

It already started in the city,
Suburbia will be just as easy

The cake is a lie
Sappy... indeed. I don't know why I didn't realize before than children getting caught in the crossfire isn't something to support.

---

Didn't know I was unamerican
For choosing to give a damn
Or unpatriotic for daring to take a stand for what I believe in
Looks like freedom to me -expressions of liberty
Wanting our America to be a responsible hegemony

Didn't know I was a communist for wanting to share the wealth
It doesn't take an economist to measure the cost of health
And what I believe in looks like heaven to me - one human family
Where everybody's got enough to eat
And something warm to cover their feet

Didn't know I'd be labeled a terrorist for daring to speak my mind
It's becoming more precarious for failing to toe the line
And what I believe in sounds like freedom to me -
Like the Sons of Liberty in 1773, dumping 45 tonnes of tea

Didn't know I was in the minority of people who love the Earth
I hope it becomes a priority before it gets any worse
And what I believe in looks like heaven to me -
Where angels take the shape of the trees
Giving us clean air to breathe, from the rivers to the mountains and seas...

Didn't know I hated my country for acknowledging the Truth
This war is despicable profiteering at the expense of our youth
And what I believe In looks like heaven to me -
All of humanity living as community, in relative harmony

I know it's just a song, but if the whole world sang along
How much longer would it be this way?
