Inspired by another thread, I set out to research where, from a scientific standpoint, a sense of humor comes from. While I found a few articles that demonstrate regions of the brain that are more active with humor, none that I found were published or that discussed where humor originates.

So where does a sense of humor come from? Is it in the brain? If so, where?

Is it in our spiritual consciousness? Is it gifted from god?

I think all anyone can do is give a best guess/hypothesis.

Further to your OP, why are some people naturally funnier than others? Hmmm...

Unless someone can share a theory from a scientific journal, that's what I'm looking for ITT.

I am remided of the quote about God being a comedian whose audience is afraid to laugh ...

    A quote by Voltaire

Coincidentally, how is it that babies know the game of peek-a-boo, a variation of hide-and-seek, without ever having been taught?

From the following, and the experiences of many who have pets, I would think that humour predates humanity by a long way:

    :D   :D

I have no idea at all how humor would have evolved in us, but I gots to say, the question is among the more interesting questions ever asked on RF.

    Why a scientific standpoint?
To paraphrase Jaspers, I think we have a superstitious overconfidience in science. It leads us to apply it inappropriately. A bit like trying to fix a puncture with cement.

If I wanted to understand where a sense of humour comes from, I'd start with religion. Then literature. Not that the line between the two is clear.

Is that, religion is just so funny, or that the orangutan in the video clip is not actually recognising and/or exhibiting humour or that the experiences of many pet owners don't see their pets displaying such?

Since we seem to share a common ancestor with the Great Apes, it would seem logical that we might have gained the same attributes around the same stage of development.
