Everyone wants to live and enjoy life right? Who doesn't enjoy eating an apple, or mango, or grape, or....? The things on this earth that can satisfy man, are almost endless, and the beauty about is is that we never tire of those things - They always seem fresh, and the experience always seem different.

Yet, the reality is, we age, and the body loses its vigor, the taste buds, lose their sensitivity... but the brain still seem to desire these things. Then death end it all.

Scientists are promising to fix that - resurrect the dead - end the aging process - end death.
The Bible says God, the creator, promises the same.

Where do you put your faith, your trust, your confidence, your hope...
In the "big magic man in the sky",:smirk: or the "puny dreamers on this earth"?:nomouth:

    Why?

Scientists don't make such "promises". However, science does produce more and better results than religion does. If you're sick, whose treatment would you consider to be more reliable; a doctor and his medicine or a priest and his prayers?

If the motives are the same, then neither. If the motives are to get for yourself things that preserve your life, then neither. Jesus says, "Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will keep it." I don't see where turning to either God or science for the same thing changes that. Both are seeking for yourself. Both will fail, and in the end, you end up with neither and your life was spent on a vein search, always hoping to keep things going, never letting go of that quest to find what is always already yours to begin with.

If however, you give up such strivings to preserve your own life, to satisfy your cravings for the things of the flesh, the things of this world, such as your own mortal body never aging and living forever and ever, then you will see God. You can't see God while your focus is busy looking to feed your mistaken belief that who you are in this flesh, is who you really are. When you let go of that desire, then you simply already are in Eden. You die and are resurrected on the spot, in the twinkling of an eye. Simple as that.

I honestly dont put trust on an person, thing, or being outside myself. I have a best friend and, of course, family. I want them at my bed side, with music, when I die. I put trust in them as support and vis versa but the truth is I die alone.

I see no sense on preventing death or keep the body freezen them until they find a way to get the body to live forever. (Cryogenics)

The Dharma (of The Buddha) talls about death in the Marannassi Sutta AN 6:19. It mentione contemplation on death is a good thing.

Why do people put faith and hope (to overcome) in death? Is it to live with that knowledge?

I suppose toying with physical immortality is scientific inevitability. I don't think it's going to make anyone very happy, because it misses the point. I think there is an earth function that we happily outgrow.

That's the difference between scientists and fundamentalists, scientists are more optimistic about the future and fundies hope the apocalypse is coming.

Tomorrow's forecast, a slight heatwave with a 100% chance of fire brimstone and insurmountable death and suffering, but fret not believers you get front row seats to watch the carnage and the popcorn and soda is free!

I don't know about immortality but I suspect man will become more integrated through computers and AI. Many folks are already pretty attached to their smart phones.

I'm thinking something like the Borg for Star Trek.

Yeah I don't see how you think what Michio Kaku said was a "false promise"

We have found a few pieces of the "fountain of youth" and in the coming decades might begin to understand how to manipulate longevity.

Where in that statement is a definite promise of what is to come?

Preachers promise everlasting life after death. But they don't know that, they have faith that it is true but zero facts to back up their claims, for the most part scientists don't say things with certainty unless it is demonstrably true, which is not always the case, take creation scientists, those dudes love confirmation bias.

I wish I could have been in my prime when the Deus Ex world is in full swing, instead I am only going to live long enough to watch humanity pass the horizon of such integration of technology.

belief does not require proving.....says Webster

faith on the other hand could be tested
regardless your pronouncement.....what you call upon will someday answer you

I have posted in recent years.....
the angels will appear and ask what you believe in
you might use a prophet's Name in reply

they will take you to Him
    and He will ask.....What's THIS?

and the angels that brought you will answer....
He used your Name as if it belonged to him
We thought he was one of yours

and you shall have your day of reckoning ......with your Lord

Whatever happened to all other religions.
I practice dispassion. So what comes, comes. Don't particularly want anything.

I don't want to live on this plane of existence forever, or even 150 years. The next life is much better.
