In Saudi-Arabia people sell and drink Camel Urine because the Prophet Muhammad believed camel urine had medicinal value and prescribed it to cure illnesses.

For some reason I immediately thought of that scene at the end of Zombieland where Tallahassey starts screaming "False. ****ing. Advertising!!"

When I attended university an eon ago, we had to do speech tests, to see if we had enough basic English to teach. We had the freedom to choose any topic and speak for 5 minutes on it. One well travelled Australian bloke spoke on the benefits of camel urine. All I remember is that it is supposedly good for your hair.

Many cultures have a tradition of drinking urine, especially the vikings. They used to have one berserker consume magic mushrooms and then all of the others would drink his urine. The effect was that they would get the battle enhancement of the drug without being useless from hallucinations. So basically, one warrior would take the hit for the rest. :D

But, as far as Saudi Arabia you can't expect too much from a culture that thinks the 13th century is the only way to live. The Saudi's have basically only accepted technology because it allowed them to dominate their neighbors and keep their oil.

It is quite remarkable to see it practiced in the 21 century (when science can provide no basis for it)

In Islam, some local Bedouin tradition knows a medical use of camel urine. This is based on an alleged hadith, according to which prophet Mohammed recommended it to some sick people. -Wiki

There it is! And we know from experience that Mohammed was just filled with such.. oh.. with just some great ideas! This one was bound to take off.

You have to take the "whole package"
ie. go with the bedouin into the desert with their camels/sheep and drink the milk and urine(as a medicine)

to drink urine by itself is not such a good idea..
