I'd eat air rats from my vicinity but never one from a city. They are full of McD and other unhealthy food.

True, and there's not a lot of meat on them - probably more on a rat.

I think that unless *most* people are somewhat prepared, individual preparations would be useless, because I think we'd devolve to a Mad Max society very quickly, sigh.

I think EVERYONE should start growing some of their own food. Here's a video that talks about sprouting broccoli. Broccoli has a decent amount of protein, and it's edible 9 or 10 days after it's sprouted. Not a total solution to be sure, but a step. (Even if you don't believe in the health benefits this guy is touting, the basic carbs and protein are for real.)

When I was 10, I spent 3months summer vacation on my grandmom's secluded village on a mountain, where blackouts were frequent. I'm in total harmony with no electrical power supply. Candles. Lot's of them.
