I know some people have been members for years, so maybe you don't recall the true reason you signed in to RF the first time. But if you recall it, Why did you choose RF? And how do you feel about RF today? In my case, I signed in because I was in a mood of searching and when seeing RF discussion from the outside it looked really good. But now a little over a year since I become a member I wonder why I bothered in the first place. In one year the RF has declined a lot in what we discuss and how the discussion goes.

And of course, there is the question that been lingering for some time. Why do aggressive Atheists sign in to a religious forum? I don't mind atheists in general, and I respect you're disbelieve, but why choose a religious forum to discuss? Maybe I am wrong, but it almost seems like you trying to tear apart spiritual people and make them suffer???? I do not understand this. Should Spiritual people respect the Atheists but not be respected back??

Perhaps the atheists are trying to pay the theists back for interfering in secular life and laws

I would think most spiritual people wish to follow the law or guideline of the spiritual path they have chosen to follow, and not the secular law and order, and if atheists want their own law and order for secular life, they can have it. But a reason for my question is that most countries in the world today are more towards living away from spirituality and the guidelines with in spiritual living. But why try to tear it away from those who wish to live a spiritual life?

    Hello Amanaki...
I lurked around RF for a couple of years because I have always been interested in learning about Historical Jesus and historical Baptist and eventually summoned up the courage to open an email account so that I could join RF.

The HJ 'experts' stopped posting over the years, but I just continued on , both here and around the internet in general.

Atheists do have a very important place on RF, Amanaki. VERY IMPORTANT!

The other day I walked in to The Riverside Church cafe in Whitstable UK and purchased a tea and a biscuit, and as I sat and read G-Mark in a NIV bible (and munched my biscuit) a Christian group walked in and a women who knows me said in a loud voice ,'I know him (pointing).... he's not a Christian! What's he doing here?'

Another Christian heard this and needed to explain to this woman that I was the one person in the place who he thought needed to be there the most! :p

When you seek to make exclusions then you are isolating yourself, not them. :D

Lol! Because fascist freaks try to legislate an appointed board to monitor Missouri libraries as per a recent thread in this very forum. Religious belief has no place in the laws I am prepared to live under

Yes this is a reaction i seen in my life too, People seem to not want us around if they know we hold a certain belief or follows a certain path. To me Atheists is just another challenge in my life where I am the one who need to take time to think if I am the one who could change my way of being, I dont ask Atheists to change :) That is not my task in life. In a spiritual setting my task in life is to Change Me, not them. IF i learn something about my self that could be better, I am the one who would need to do the work to become the better person :) But yes i do sometimes wonder what the goal of Atheists in a religious forum actually is.

So you do not want to live by the guidelines Buddha put forth for Buddhists to follow?

The atheist forum owner from whence I came about two years ago was intolerant of religion and Baha'is in particular.
The atheists are cool here.

I have no interest in telling what to do or not to do. It seems to me like you already have your way of being. But it's the first time I'm chatting with a Theravada Buddhist who are as aggressive as you are, almost everyone I spoke with in my 20 years when i was a theravadin my self, was very pleasant. But its your way of being, so it not a problem for me.

If someone wants to legislate my morality, you can be sure I'll be aggressive in my own defense

But is that what Buddha say his followers should do? Does it matter if someone asked you questions about your way of practicing? I ask because I know when I practiced Buddhism I was sometimes aggressive back in my own defense. But honestly it never got me anywhere. Actually it only created more suffering. Asking questions is a way of learning of course. The way we answer may affect those who read it.

There are 228 precepts for bikkhus. I try to live by 5 precepts. You didnt ask me anything, you used a loaded question to suggest or hint at what you feel to be my errors in the path. You never once asked me why I might do certain things in certain ways. I would ask you why but it's not important

I do not try to find your errors (if you have some you already know them). But in genuine way i find your way of practicing Buddhism a bit different from others I spoken with before. Often when i read your answer in different threads i notice an aggressive style of answering, and according to the 4 noble truths and 8 folded paths as a Buddhist one should avoid hurting others in Words, action or even thoughts, But since your focus are at the 5 precepts it seems to be your practice is a bit different from what i first thought. And it is nothing wrong with that. it is you who practice Buddhism not me(any more) I will choose to not ask you more questions about your way of practicing. But thank you for the answers you already given. I wish you all well .

As I said, you didnt ask questions. You cloaked your criticisms in rhetorical questions and that is a form of passive aggression. Look to yourself before concerning yourself with me.

I do look to my self before i ask, because I have been asked the exact same questions I ask you from other people when i was a practicing Buddhist. So i recognize many things from my own path
