What type of atheist are you?

Which of these 3 alternatives better describes your view?

    1) God is like Santa Clause: there are good positive reasons to reject the existence of Santa Clause, Analogous to there are good positive reasons to reject the existence of God

    2) God is like Aliens: There are no good and conclusive arguments for or against the existence of Aliens. Let’s simply avoid/hold belief in Aliens until good evidence is presented….. Analogous to there is no strong evidence for nor against God I will hold my belif in good until someone presents evidence…

    3) God is like the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs: there are good arguments for the asteroid theory and good arguments against the asteroid theory … you simply belive that the argumetns against are stronger…… Analogous to there are good arguments for and against God, the arguments against are better.

Depends on the god in question. Which did you have in mind?

There is a lot more evidence for Santa Clause; who do you think brings my grand children's presents on 25th December?
Who is that man I am going to see in Bury on a steam train?

Again, there are good arguments for the existence of aliens. The universe is unbelievably vast and we no very little about 99.99999999....% of it.
What are the chances that somewhere within that vast universe there will be another life form? Pretyy good I'd say.

An asteroid collision is the best explanation for the fairly sudden extinction of the dinosaur, there is good evidence for it (Haven't they found what they this is the likely crater??) What arguments against it are there?

I'd say number three first since believing god is subjective and what works better depends on the person who wants to devote their life to that belief.

I'm on a toss up with three and the first because I agree that there are positive reasons to not believe in god just as there are negative reasons and vis versa. It may be one but I don't compare belief in god to santa claus, aliens, and astroids. Each has their place.

None of the above. I'm just sitting here twiddling my thumbs, withholding belief pending evidence.

Where is, you first need a God to prove there is a God?

    4) God doesn't exist. There's no evidence of omnipotent behaviour in the universe. Anything that happens here happens naturally.

I do believe that existence has properties of mind. Its far less than a God though!

Aren't there a lot of Gods and Godesses credited with that?

Well that cuts it down to around 3800 gods that have been worshipped throughout recorded history as the creator of the universe

Ah okay thank you. Most creator conceptions I've seen are 4. Like the invisible fairies in my pocket. Their existence is unfalsifiable and thus we have no reliable way to assess the claim.

Parents are the cause of those presents…

There are good positive reason to think that Parents are a better explanation than santaclause………………….do you have good positive reasons to think that God is not the best explanation for say the origin of the universe? Do you have a better explanation in mind?

I don’t know … what are the chances? Do you have the math?

Would you assert that the existence of Aliens is more probable than the existence of God?......

Prediction: you won’t answer with a simple yes or a simple no.

    ..from wikipedia

the asteroid hypothesis has some problems............it has some strog points and some weak points

I am only aware of 3 or 4 Gods with that attribute…… but sure, for the sake of this thread with God I simply mean a creator of the universe…. With universe I mean “all space-time and everything in it.”

So who is the man in the red suit on the steam train I've booked to see in early December?

Who eats the mince pies and why is the carrot gone every Xmas morning?

I don't know is the only answer for the origin of the universe.
Do you have an explanation for the origin of god? (btw I do)

    Yes

But you can't give me any of the weak points ??

You have posted this in the Science and Religion section.

What has any of this to do with science?
