What makes a true Christian

Many people claim they are Christian, but are 'Christian' in name only, others follow false ideas or men rather than Christ, or put on the form but have no substance, no deep belief or trust in Christ. Some Christians say they are full of love but their hearts are a black cauldron of hate and envy for others.

Many others go around claiming they are 'saved' but somehow have more of 'self' than of Christ. They seemed to be relying on their selves, their acts, their 'mans wisdom' to present themselves as 'saved'.

Those who accept Christ, however sincere their conversion, and no matter how confident in their claim, have to be careful of the danger of trusting to themselves. We only have to look at the example of Peter, as Peter's greatest failure was from a self-confidence and pride in self that led him to the downward path, where he could deny his Master. Christians, when they accept Christ have to let go of self and the hooks of self pride and unholy passions, but many cannot do it and slowly drift into a false status, not truly accepting Christ as their Saviour, but presenting themselves as such and ultimately only fooling themselves, as Christ will unveil them at the end.
So what makes a true Christian?
