I made a similar post in /r/polls but I wanted to ask the good people here at Religious Forums this question as well. I also wanted to ask this question in a more clear, concise format. This seems like the perfect place to put this poll. I'm curious as to what people are going to say about this.
Currently I live in a suburb of Milwaukee. It's large enough where the busses still run around, yet small enough to be considered safe by most people's standards. There was a Meijer's and a Festival Foods built around me, and they added sidewalks going east now. There's a lot of construction going on towards the west side of the suburb, which they built basically a second downtown area of the city. I live near a large park, and they are currently doing construction on that too.
I would consider living anywhere except the countryside, because I don't own or operate a car or other vehicle. i have learned that the exurbs of Wisconsin can and do offer services to provide for the needs of low-income individuals in my state, and broadband Internet is accessible almost everywhere here, except in a few rural areas up north.
My parents want me to continue to live in this suburb however because they claim I would be really bored if I moved closer to them, in an exurb of Milwaukee. Although I hate to admit it, but that is probably true. In any case if things do change I will always have the opportunity to move there anyways. I'm on Section 8 and the property company I would use exists all around the state. My parents have told me they will eventually move somewhere up north, and I have a rough plan of what I'll do when they do that.
That's not for ten years however and I got a lot of time to think about it before it happens. I've been living here now for six years and will most likely be living here much longer than that. I've taken various apartment tours and really what I've come to find out is that the current place I'm living in is just better in many ways compared to almost anywhere else I could or would move into had I not lived here.
There's a lot of violence now in Milwaukee, even around the area I used to live, and I don't think I want to take the risk and move towards the inner city again. The place I used to live was filled with drug addicts. Many people I knew from that building are either dead now or in a much worse spot. I don't want to be living in that apartment anymore, for various reasons. The demographic of where I live now is better, even if everybody here is poor like me.
If I did move out of the suburbs chances are I'd most likely move to a smaller town rather than a larger one, so I can be closer to my parents and stay safe. As long as I can have access to broadband Internet I should be fine... The cities might be interesting but it's not worth risking my life over. Plus my appointments can be done virtually now.
I'm in a good spot where I'm in. From where I am at I can walk almost anywhere in the county. The busses now stop at the Meijer's built just up the street. They also just built a movie theater near me too. And overall I feel safe here. Once in awhile during a bad thunderstorm the power or Internet will go out. That's a small price to pay for the comfort and safety of a large suburb.
TLDR Version: I live in the suburbs and I'm going to be here for awhile.
So, what type of area do you reside in?
