    For me, it has to be Ecclesiastes; this being one of my favourites:-
    3:1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

    3:2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

    3:3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

    3:4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

    3:5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

    3:6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

    3:7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

    3:8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

    3:9 What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth?

    3:10 I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.

    3:11 He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.

    3:12 I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life.

    3:13 And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.

    3:14 I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him.

    3:15 That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.

    3:16 And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, that wickedness was there; and the place of righteousness, that iniquity was there.

    3:17 I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.

    3:18 I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.

    3:19 For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.

    3:20 All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.

    3:21 Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?

    3:22 Wherefore I perceive that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his own works; for that is his portion: for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?

    I rather like the beatitudes, though I rarely see their principles honored by Christians.

    my favourite book is 2kings - i know its the OT but its just such a random book! for instance, 2kings2:23-25:

    From there, elisha went up to Brethel. On the way some boys came out of the city and made fun of him. they said to him, "go up too, you bold head, go up too, you bodl head!" Elisha turned round, looked at them, an dput a curse on them in the name of the LORD. Then two mother bears cme out of the woods and Tore 42 of the boys to pieces. Elisha went to Mount Carmel and from there he returned to samaria

    For me, Daniel 2;44 is what all of the bible is about from Genesis to revelation .the theme of Gods kingdom goverment runs through the whole of the bible and the fullfilling of Gods purpose will come about through this heavenly kingdom goverment

    And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be brought to ruin. And the kingdom itself will not be passed on to any other people. It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite daniel 2;44 ................bring it on

    Let your kingdom come. Let your will take place, as in heaven, also upon earth ....matthew 6;10

    My favorite part of the Bible is the book of James. All of it. I don't agree with it all, but it is what I wish all Christians would take to heart.

    I think James understood what Christianity could be. A real, living worldview that far exceeded dogma and religious laws. It was a way of living, of thinking, of feeling and of having faith. But you had to act. If you really believe in your worldview, you will act on it. Heathens believe the same thing about ours. What I love about James is that when I read him, I'm not reminding myself to live a Christian life, but to live a Heathen life. I am reminded that if I believe what I say I believe, then I need to live it. I can't allow myself to be lazy, or dishonest, or weak just because I'm afraid of something or because I'm mad at something. I have to live my religion everyday, all the time, and James knows why that is important. James has a different worldview than I, but god! do I respect his brutal desire to truly live it.

    The Book of James is the book of scripture that was the catalyst for Mormonism. This is the book that inspired Joseph Smith to ask God for the truth (see James 1:5).

    It is my favorite book in the bible also. I agree with what you say that James understood what Christianity was all about. He outlines doctrine very clearly in my opinion.

    James 1:22 - But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

    Hi all,
    I think the following peice really calls out to those who dont beleive in themselves. Its magical yet its close to the heart because it can relate to everyone at anytime they feel as if the world has turned its back. Enjoy:

    ' You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your father in heaven.'
    Matthew 5:14-15
