In other threads an opinion has surfaced repeatedly that Christians do not have rules they need to follow. A lot of Christians disagree with that. Which is why they don't drink alcohol, have pre-martial sex or expose their naked body parts in public, etc. But this thread is about those who believe there are no rules except for believing in God and Jesus and treating others as you would like to be treated.

I'm not sure if the people who voiced this opinion tended to ignore the 10 commandments since they are so obvious or if there is some reason they don't need to follow those either.

The ten commandments exist in Christianity, Judaism and Islam.

If faith, treating others as you would like to be treated and, let's add the ten commandments to it, are the only "rules" that Christians have to follow, what exactly is the virtue in being a Christian?

The Cult of the Ten Commandments. I wonder if there is a person on earth who has actually studied ethics who believes the Ten Commandments are an adequate statement of ethical principles? I will wager it is mostly people who do not know what they are talking about that think that.

Beyond that, Jesus's talk about loving God and loving your neighbor -- which he borrowed from Judaism -- is something I have seen numerous Christians turn into a thing of beauty through their actions.

Of course, if one reads the NT, one finds that there is much more as to life guidance than what your post states.

Virtue is not the ultimate goal of Christianity

Ironically Jesus gave just very basic rules to 'being a christian'...
