What is the Message of the Book of Job?

Jealous people will end up looking stupid. Satan jealous of people's loyalty. People jealous of Job's loyalty. I think that's all I have.

How do you interpret Job?

The book of Job reveals the fundamental issue between God and Satan, which involves man’s integrity to Gods law and sovereignty under any circumstances. It also proves that God is not the cause of mankind’s suffering, sickness, and death, and it explains why the righteous are persecuted, while the wicked and wickedness are permitted to continue.

Job also reveals Jehovah’s righteous standards which are set forth in many passages. Materialism is strongly condemned (Job 31:24,*25) along with idolatry (31:26-28), adultery (31:9-12), gloating (31:29), injustice and partiality (31:13; 32:21), selfishness (31:16-21), and dishonesty and lying (31:5)

Its also apparent as to why this book is among the holy writings when we consider Jobs life-course. He is mostly remembered for keeping his integrity when under trial and his patient endurance which has set the right example for Gods servants throughout the ages. He is mentioned in the Christian scriptures by James: “You have heard of the endurance of Job and have seen the outcome Jehovah gave, that Jehovah is very tender in affection and merciful.”Jas. 5:11.

Without this book it would be hard to understand why God has allowed suffering to continue for so long and who this satan character really is what his goal is.

The preamble begins.....and the sons of God did gather to present themselves.

God Himself objects to the presence of the devil among them.

God then directs the attention of the devil to Job as a comparison.
The devil takes this as a personal insult.
The least of God's servant's is preferred?........

The devil then has something to prove....but can only do so if Job would curse God.

It's all about character.
Worthy to stand in the presence of God.

Job was simply a blind sided target.
And God is willing to let it happen.

Job knew from the beginning. His faith in God did and could sustain him through all things- all loss and death. And even further, into prosperity, once again.

If God had not restored Job's prosperity and life in the end, would the meaning of the story to you be significantly changed?

it might show God to be indifferent and our integrity of little importance to him.

But the fact that he does reward Job shows that he is not indifferent and he is keenly interested in our integrity...interested enough to bless integrity keepers.

I thught it was really sweet when God replaced the kids Satan had taken from him.

Job would have to be cursing God, instead of praising Him. To praise God is to have prosperity and life. Job knew this, because he had been praising. Evil does not happen to God. God is good, and the source of goodness. So, if Job were to curse God, he'd only be cursing himself, and even further. Evil occurs by and to creation, but only so that creation may praise and be praised- believing in goodness and becoming goodness. Goodness is a predator to evil. Evolution occurs the same way, causing change toward the acceptable conditions for each space and time. It's the story of life. And it is complex.

That was the role that God had given Satan, even in the end God takes credit for these things happening. It's amazing how people have twisted what was once a servant of God inclusive to Gods will into some deity who holds contempt for God. There is nothing in the book of Job that shows that Satan's role is what we now consider it.

I see Job as a book that allows humans to ask questions. While Job did not curse God and Die, he did as why, and God gave him a response.

it is the view of Christ and his disciples that Satan the Devil is an enemy of God. Jesus clearly did not view him as a loyal servant doing Gods will....unless you think it is Gods will that someone should lie to trick others:

John 8:44*YOU are from YOUR father the Devil, and YOU wish to do the desires of YOUR father. That one was a manslayer when he began, and he did not stand fast in the truth, because truth is not in him. When he speaks the lie, he speaks according to his own disposition, because he is a liar and the father of [the lie]

Since when does an angel act on his own disposition? According to Jesus words, Satan is not acting on the direction of God when he goes out to break a persons integrity.
