What is the Justification for Capitalism? For Socialism? For Communism?

You don't think so?
To quote Samuel Johnson -
'Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel.'
Besides which, we don't get subjected to Canadians or Australians shouting that their country is the greatest - only Americans seem to do that.

Nothing wrong with Patriotism. And I never said the USA was the greatest. I said it was great. There is a difference.

The American superiority complex really annoys me - if you don't like anyone to take issue with t, then don't tell them your country is thee greatest.

Maybe we don't have a superiority complex. Maybe the British have an inferiority complex? You ever think about that? :p

I know when I met some football players from London once in Munich at a bar. They was talking some mad p00p about Germans, which I didn't appreciate considering my fiance was German. Everything was cool though until one grabbed my drink and tried to sip it. Well I just smashed that glass right into his face and bifurcated his upper lip. Then his buddies jumped in to save their damsel with 3 lips in distress. I took 3 more of them to the hospital with me before I went unconscious. Not a bad fight for 1 vs 10.

I've seen the British attitude. It's no better or worse than Americans. So you don't really have room to judge.

I disagree. Patriotism causes wars and divides us.

Fair enough - I stand corrected. It's still annoying though.

Pride comes before a fall.

I despise these kind of people. Thank goodness, they are a very small minority over here.
Most Americans I come across (not just the yobbos) have similar 'we're better than you' opinions of themselves.

I bet that made you feel so powerful.

What a hero.
Personally, I would try to avoid violence.

Because no other country save America, has such an attitude about itself. Or, if they do, they don't rub it in the noses of people from other countries.

Anyway, this exchange has gone far off topic so I'll leave it.

No, greed, power, self righteousness causes wars and divides us.

What a hero.

I try to avoid violence as well. But sometimes violence is the only language a bully understands. Reasoning with him only increased his belligerence.

Nah this is fine. I've said all I need to say as well.

And is encouraging monetary success as a prime goal actually good?

I wouldn't argue that it's "good" or "bad", as these are subjective statements. What I can argue is that exchange of goods and services for money is a good way of allocating resources in society.

Didn't you just argue that it's good then?
And a subjective argument is fine. I don't think human political systems can be objectively 'bad', personally.

Which socialist aspects are those?

I posted aspects of that earlier, so I'll quote myself if you can excuse the hubris...

The fundamental approach to health, education, welfare, taxation, the national airline, postal service, the mint, alchohol retailing...all wholely or largely state owned. I mean...alchohol retailing. That's not exactly a capitalist free market at work, right?

They allow free markets to operate within state regulation (as do all capitalist societies), but capitalism is more than merely free markets, else...again...I'd suggest Socialism is a meaningless term, and the world is divided between Communism and Capitalism.

Please note, I didn't call Finland 'socialist'. I did say it's a mix of capitalism and socialism.

They are currently trialling a living wage approach to welfare, which will substantially change the overall tenor if it moves past trial.
