Today we lost our youngest cat, Cleopatra, to a speeding vehicle.

Not yet 3 years old she had at least a decade of life to enjoy and yes she did enjoy life. She was different, cheeky, friendly, brave, fearless, timid, playful, loving, caring.

Different... Her pet passport had options for single, bi or tri coloured markings, Cleopatra was six distinct colours and several more if you count shades.

Cheeky... She seemed to know when she was up to something she should not be doing. Constantly looking over her shoulder to check if she was being watched. When caught and told "No" she would turn and mouth what must be the most offensive cat language then return to her naughtiness.

Friendly... i look after (feed) several stray cats, have had them to the vets to be neutered, inoculated, wormed etc. Cleopatra adored being with these errant cats, she played with the younger ones and liked to be close to the older strays
We have another cat, the pair of them got on like a house on fire (have you ever seen a building burn?). Cleopatra adored her older mentor. The mentor taught by lashing out with extended claws. Poor Cleopatra, her face was a patchwork of cuts and gashes, yet she still wanted to be with her older guide.

Brave and fearless... She would bravely stand her ground against the biggest dog. Fearlessly guarding our courtyard from intruding canines.

Timid... If a new face called she would examine the caller from a distance then run and hide? But should the caller appear a second time Cleopatra would expect due attention from the caller.

Playful... One of the hardest parts of today has been finding her toys scattered around the house. She loved to play with soft toys as a child would would play with a doll. Cuddling and loving them, carrying them to show them new things, taking them to her food bowl so they too could have a bite to eat.

Loving and caring... Just one of many examples, a few months ago i had a minor operation and was away from home overnight. On my return i needed bed rest (although i did break that rule often). Cleopatra did not leave my side for 5 days, she didnt go out to play or explore but lay by my side constantly while lightly purring.

She adored her life and made every second of her much too short time before that life was snatched away from her.

Goodbye Cleopatra, we will miss your presence in our lives.

    I have a loss to share.....Sammy

that animal could read our thoughts

when our kids were young the science project was bug collecting
Sammy brought a dragon fly for the collection

    intact

among other things he was loved

and like most cats......cars are an unknown

he fell to the wheels following my daughter to the bus
she had to carry him to the porch

    tough lesson for a child

Ah, Christine, I'm sorry for your loss. That's what happens to us when we love pets...and others. We lose them. And it's hard, every time. Better, though, to love them than not.

No worries.....Now that I know it’s serious I’ll tell you. I’m sorry for your loss. I will tell you what I told a friend of mine of Facebook (respect to your spiritual and religious beliefs).

Animals and all sentient beings that positively affects us in life are all created by God. I believe that when we take in these creatures as their caretakers which develops into a friendship, eventually developing into a family bond, it enriches our lives. This enrichment is not just the positive fulfillment of having a loyal creature but a friend, and someone that maintains that bond. When we lose that bond we just lose the physical body that death takes to which the chain of great memories have been broken. That imprinted bond lasts forever and in hope, makes us better people.

Feel bad about things like this. The importance is how happy you and your pet were. Those memories will never die.

    My heartfelt sympathy.
