    Just for fun...

What if we are just a computer program like Forge of Empire's and Elvenar.

Computers programs are written with codes. So are we, DNA.
Change a code, get a error or an upgrade. Same with us.

I tend to see us as sophisticated biological programs.

Especially in the feedback system we call feelings.

Well, arguments for biological determinism are made quite quickly once you start to look at a little neuroscience and break down physiological building blocks. The 'free - willish' parts of the brain, aren't those kinda the last to evolve.. The reins we have , they operate an animal. Often they must even be developed, with meditation, with finally reaching the end of brain development , with practice. What that tells you is, it isn't quite natural, this idea that can control yourself, and direct yourself do anything

Nothing would change, which is why the premise is ultimately unfulfilling and unproductive as a philosophical exercise.

When a computer program becomes curious about such questions the distinction becomes irrelevant.

This "videogame" seems to have a permadeath feature though.
But then again, I don't think I've ever died before so maybe I do respawn when I die.
Shall I try something I might regret? :p

Yep. Lots of bugs and they all have their own code. In fact there are so many bugs, this game seems to be made for the bugs.

Okay, now some deeper justified reasoning please.

As it stand it is an invalid loose kind of deduction.

Whether we are in computer simulation of not, nothing will change.
The part after the comma doesn't follow from the part before.

As a minor Trekkie I have of course got this all figured out. If we are a computer program it makes no difference. Our sense of reality comes not from knowing the ultimate nature of existence but from healthy psychology and relationships. I think we aren't awesome enough that it would make a lot of difference whether we were in a program or not.

I don't think so. We still have this mysterious thing called consciousness that computers don't.

I think one of the biggest issues with this idea, if we are to consider it. Obviously besides the infinite power requirement, bugs etc.

Anything could potentially be seen as a simulation.

Take a simple object like a glass, it has some properties like how much can it hold:

    Object Glass
    Float Liquid_Amount
    Boolean Broken

    etc.

And you could do that with everything, because of how programming works, we define objects, which have certain attributes and functionality. So its not really strange that we can interpret reality as that of a simulation. Because it would be extremely difficult to tell the difference and therefore it wouldn't really matter one way or the other.

Assuming that the simulation doesn't need power and doesn't bug etc. Sure we could live in one :)

There are no valid conclusions to be drawn from the premise that would have any implications on our present lives at all, let alone change the way we act. It is an exercise in intellectual masturbation.
