I could well be wrong. Don't know. In rural Alberta growing up, racial slurs were part of the norm.
But Skwim calling me gay here.....that's just a friendly overture.
Different epithets in other times & places.....responses will vary.

Yes, of course we do it all the time amongst friends. I think the Scots would think yur portrayal is funny. But this topic is often a fine line. The fact that the origin of of the phrase was niggy, not ninny, says something to me. I won't be using it.

I've never seen the movie, nor do I intend to. As I said before, there are some racial phrases, I had never heard of before either. I've confronted people with racial humour before in real life, and have been told to 'lighten up'. First nations 'humour' and East Indian 'humour' have never set well with me. I'm suggesting you consider that this phrase may well be a racial one, and stop using it. If it is, most likely the producers got a few complaints. After all, Hollywood was well known in the old days to be quite racist. Of course I can start a serious thread on racial joke phrases.

Did you actually read the link you posted here?

Do you see any difference in the spelling in the link from the spelling in the OP?

While I appreciate your sentiment, please stop creating drama and racist motives where none exist.

And again, PLEASE, lighten up!

Please cite which one came first. I am willing to place a gentlemen's bet that you cannot find one post with the former spelling that predates the movie's release.

Yes, I did some research and you are indeed correct. I think I reacted originally as to my sensitivity about the Sikh faith and the several racial slurs they get regarding turbans. But none of that matched the wording here. Sensitive day here I guess.

What if I called you a cotton headed ninny muggins in passing?

"He does nothing all Christmas season but watch Elf because he's a cotton headed ninny muggins.

A cotton headed ninny muggins is what British people call Qtips.

As such, I can see that if you referred to an individual in a manner that compares them to a tool for cleaning one's ears then this could be perceived as grossly offensive.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Salix, I don't understand the context I guess. The urban dictionary info indicated it was racist, referring of African Americans, I guess. Much like the 'n' word. I've personally used racist idioms in the past, unknowingly, but once I learned the history, I stopped.
Does that mean I have to stop liking Cotton Eye Joe?
