    Is there more?

If religious Bob says there is heaven or hell after death and nonreligious Bill says there is nothing after death....
Aren't they both simply assuming what they don't know?

I think the evidence seems to point to reincarnation. Like the Laws of Thermodynamics.

I'm pretty sure things will happen all over again at square one like this life is. Question is who, what, where?

Of course once the mind is completely wiped, I'll never know, or the new living form for that matter.

Why wonder? The Bible says that there is life to come. That's the beauty of the Bible -- it makes so much sense. The life to come (everlasting life) will not have the sorrows and miseries we see today, but we will know who we are. :) As an example, when persons were resurrected as recorded in the Bible, they didn't wonder who they were, and neither did their relatives. Revelation 21:1-5 speaks about the future.

How does something like self, memory, recall, experience, qualia, reasoning, knowing, conceptualization, love, hate, character, personality, etc. come to be in the first place? It's evident to me it's orchestrated and constructed that these things come about from some sort of primitive yet powerful intellect. It's evident that because of such intellect consciousness must be an extra dimension of reality. To me evolution is ingenious and extremely smart yet also very savage. I said yes.

The experience of consciousness doesn't translate to purely physical terms. You can say it's just chemistry and electric but that explanation doesn't give you a demonstrable model. It's unproven with explanation gaps that are not going to be filled. It's also untestable. No third person access to someone's first person consciousness will be forthcoming.

After our past life review on the astral plane, we take another physical body until we've done everything we've ever wanted to do.

I always dream of my own pets who died of old age. And they are very loving.
That means that someday I will meet them again.

    Know?
No way to know. So it depends if you're asking what I think is true (worm food) or what I know and can prove.
I see no reason to believe in a soul, I don't think there is a god (particularly an interventionist one), our bodies...objectively...do become worm food.

Consciousness is trickier to a degree, but I'm unaware of any consciousness before I was born. So based on all that I'm extrapolating that there is no afterlife.

What I 'want' doesn't really enter into things. Much as it would be groovy to impact on reality in that way, it's yet another thing which doesn't mesh with what I know and/or believe about the world around me.

Has either of them had an NDE, or have had genuine mystical experiences? If not, then yes, both are just speculating. If yes, then no. They would have a direct experience to speak from, rather than just personal beliefs speculating about something they have no personal experience with.

I know there is more after physical death.
I do not know that as a fact since it cannot be proven, but there are other ways of knowing.

Woo-hoo for the first 'don't care' vote!

Whether or not there is an afterlife doesn't interest me because I believe treating this life as a weigh station to the next cheapens this life. If you need the carrot of a good afterlife or the stick of a bad afterlife to effect your behavior, that says something about where your values are, in my opinion, and that there are healthier ways to interact with the life you have now than treating it as an unimportant step on the road to something more your liking.

None - agnostic but with strong irreligious suspicions.
I don't know (so voted), but I doubt very much that anything occurs after death other than simple physical decay. And perhaps I tend to base this upon the process that seems to occur during life - from being born and as to what happens as we develop. A baby, and subsequently the child, will not develop normally without all that surrounds them - parental love and education, and as to all that communities generally instil into them over the years. Seemingly, all this just seems to be associated with the mind (as it develops) and with the physical brain, given we know what tends to happen when something goes wrong with the latter - it often affects the mind. With the physicality decaying, I fail to see how anything can carry on.

According to the witness reports, Jesus died and rose from the dead.

To paraphrase Hitchens: Lots of things happen after death; they just don't involve you.

I think they are assuming what their bodily senses cannot reveal to them. Heavens and hells, due to their nature, cannot be seen with the eyes, heard with the ears, felt with the skin, smelled with the nostrils, or tasted with the tongue. There is only one thing that can inform us in a very personal way of the existence of heavens and hells: the mind. (In my philosophy, the mind is the mental sense whereas sight, hearing, touch, smelling, and taste are the bodily senses. All six are ultimately physical.) 'Seeing' or 'hearing' heavens and hells with the mind is probably rare though. Additionally, there is the intellect. Our view on the existence or nonexistence of heavens and hells can be the product of reason. It is all up to the individual to determine what makes sense to them.

I like what you say here. If I might add, if the physical reflects the spiritual, (the setting and rising of the sun, the change of the seasons, genetic inheritance, etc.) the transmigration of the soul seems likely.

    May it be so! :)

I completely agree. Although I believe in transmigration, I understand that doing good deeds for the sake of a nice afterlife means that one is treating other beings as means to an end. In my opinion, it is superior to treat other beings as ends instead of means.
