Just interested in things that may have lead people to stop believing in God (if they ever believed in a God in the first place). Wondered if there was a common denominator for people :)

Yahweh's immorality for one. No good evidence for believing in any particular god. apparent contradictions in holy texts etc.

Just a side-effect of putting value on making sense.

I've been an atheist all my life.
Never seen any reason to change that.

Not many atheists are convinced there is no god. Most just reject the defined gods i.e. Allah, Yahweh etc. Based on the rejection of these gods they then decide that they need not believe in a god(s). Maybe someone else can explain it better than me :p

I just never saw any objective evidence for nor any need of an omnipotent, omnipresent creator deity.

In that case, some contradict their own existence, others cannot be proven to exist, and some only exist via labeling things already known as "god" (pantheists).

I found error's in all the religions I looked into and eventually I saw that there was no evidence for a God, so I decided that Atheism was true.

I was raised with a vague liberal theism.

At one point, I decided to look more into it, in order to see what I actually believed and why, rather than to just sort of believe what I was raised with. I felt at the time I should be closer to god. I was in my early teens at the time.

I read the Bible all the way through, which resulted in me significantly distancing myself from the Christian religion more than I already was, and led me to be less of a theist. Spent time with prayer, that led me away from theism as well. I read the Qu'ran, Bhagavad Gita, and Tao Te Ching. Later I read 10 Upanishads, and took college classes on religion.

Once I determined that I had no reasons to believe any of it, I stopped believing any of it.

My path was very similar to yours. I read the books of many other different religions and practiced many types of prayers but received no results. I also studied the histories of different religions, and it was mostly the information from archaeology and historical documents that convinced me that all gods have been invented and created by persons, either out of ignorance or for purposes of manipulation to gain power and wealth.

I have been an atheist from birth but had I a mainstream belief system before I read the book above it would have been pretty much destroyed by the 4th or 5th chapter.

    :)

    Bertrand rocks!!

My parents forgot to teach me that there was a god.

They also forgot to teach me what the word god means so I really don't have a clear understanding of the concept.
It is difficult to believe in something you don't know what is.

Noone ever gave me a satisfying description of what god is and why I should believe in it, so I don't :)

My upbringing was similar to that. Religion never existed in my family. Like you I have never seen any good reasons or evidence for any gods or religions.
