I personally learn a lot in this forums.

Sometimes I bring an argument that I think is strong, and then IO realize that is not so strong and viceversa sometimes I find out that my argument is stronger than previously thought.

When speaking about belief, I am certain that debate is totally useless. Once indoctrinated, no other doctrinaire assertions are going to be acceptable.

But there are many people who try to use evidence to help them decide what to believe, or how to behave, or what may be true or false. With such people, debate is a worthwhile exercise, because they are more likely to listen to such data and evidence as you provide (thought sadly for you, they're hoping you'll do the same). Such people can actually learn and change their minds based upon what they learn.

I may be wrong, but I don't think that is possible when the subject matter is religious belief debated between believers. After all, what facts or evidence are they actually basing their positions on?

First of all, the debate threads are for debate. I see nothing wrong with debating there ─ everyone who goes there is a volunteer.

Second, when you debate, there's always the possibility that you'll get asked a material question that you can't answer, that you have to think about ─ such moments are for me the ultimate reward for debating.

Third, there are few clearer views of other people's worlds than through debate.

I learn about other beliefs through the presentation of their believers. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. Sometimes I learn things I didn't know, and apply that knowledge forward.

Absolutely. Humans are a competitive species. Have you heard of a thing called sports? There's quite a few going on in Japan right now.

To refer to Viktor Frankl humans feel meaning in life when they set goals worthy of the self.

Yes I know of humans way of having fun ( sports, fighting for money and fame)

Meaning of life to a spiritual person is to connect with God, not win a game :)

It's a gamble that assumes a God exists. Risky to make meaning in life on what might be an illusion. Could create a big crisis.

Suppose you did argue with someone of different beliefs. If they have the better facts, yes it does create the danger that they could change your mind on some things. It can be hard to get enlightened within a teaching, if one changes their mind on too many things.

On the other hand, if one defeats your arguments during a debate, it could also be that they're just the better arguer. If they're the better arguer, but didn't present the better facts, not any point in changing your ideas because of them, should you decide to change them based on debate at all.

Since I do not claim to know for a fact, but a belief in the teaching I follow i see no problem with someone understanding better then my self, I can learn

Every time you believe something there's a chance for error. Others take it more seriously and aren't quick to believe in things that are unlikely.

I would say daily study, daily pondering, meditation, prayer and so on make it more as a practice that just a belief. It is a study from within my own being.

Is it also risky to make meaning in life on the teachings of Gautama Buddha? His promise of enlightenment might also be an illusion and "create a big crisis"?

Experience of the results of spiritual practice may start from day 1. People need faith or trust though to continue on the path, faith in the value and the direction of the teachings.

The ideal form of debate is to get together, exchange facts and arguments and find the truth.

Sure. Most everyone who invests their time in an endeavor or activity derive meaning from it. Often it can be for the social aspect of it, like the weekly poker game a group of friends will play.
